Watch the trailer for the new NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET remake!

It is finally here! Yesterday, the first trailer for the remake of A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET was put online. Check it out..it looks awesome! Freddy's voice is really creepy to me in this trailer. The remake is due in theaters April 30th, 2010 and stars Jackie Earle Haley as Freddy Krueger. For those that aren't familiar with the original films (shame on you!), A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET was about a man named Freddy Krueger who was caught molesting the neighborhood kids. The parents took the law in their own hands and tracked Freddy downed and burned him alive in the boiler room where he worked. Now, years later, Freddy has come back to kill the kids of the parents who burned him. He does this through the kids dreams, so they have to force themselves to stay awake or die tragic deaths in their sleep. One two...Freddy's comming for you....

Book Review: ZOMBIE MOVIES: THE ULTIMATE GUIDE by Glenn Kay

For all you fans of Zombie movies out there like myself, this book is a must have. ZOMBIE MOVIES: THE ULTIMATE GUIDE is by Glenn Kay and published in 2008 by Chicago Review Press. The book starts with forward from a true "Master Of Horror", Stuart Gordon (director of such classic horror films as DOLLS, CASTLE FREAK, FROM BEYOND and, of course, the classic RE-ANIMATOR among others). The book then goes on to review and rate nearly 300 Zombie films, arranged in alphabetical order in decade. The book includes tons of photos and while most are black and white, it does contain a 16 page midsection of color photos including rare photos and pics of great Zombie movie posters. The book covers not only mainstream American Zombie films, but list lots of obscure foreign and independent Zombie films from all over the world! The last chapter is the author's list of the 25 greatest Zombie films (in his opinion), and while most of these lists always have George Romero's original NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD as the #1 Zombie film, Glenn Kay puts it as #2! So what is his #1 Zombie film of all time? Buy the book and find out!! You will be glad you did!

THE FLY is being remade again!

Firstshowing.net announced that THE FLY will be remade again (a threemake?). The original film was made in 1958 and then David Cronenberg remade it in 1986. So who is doing the new remake? Legendary director David Cronenberg! Wait...what? David Cronenberg is remaking his original THE FLY film, which itself was remake? Interesting...and a little confusing!

Pic of the new FREDDY KRUEGER leaked??

My friend Phillip sent me this pic today...supposedly it is a leaked pic of what Freddy is going to look like from the new NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET remake. Could this be legit, or is it just something a fan made for fun. More than likely this is fake.....I don't see them going this graphic and realistic for the NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET remake. This pic looks too much like a real burn victim, not the wise-cracking Freddy I know! What do you think??

Horror in the news-- a real CHUPACABRA has been found!!

For those that haven't heard of a Chupacabra, it is a an animal thought to exist in Mexico and South America that is sometimes referred to as "the goat sucker", due to it's tendency to stalk and kill livestock by sucking the blood from them, especially goats. While this creature has been sighted by many, few believe it's real existence due to lack of physical evidence. Well, that might be changing now thanks to John Hunter of White Bluff, TN who shot and killed what he believes might me an actual Chupacabra!

A few horror films have been made about the Chupacabra including 2003's EL CHUPACABRA and the 2009 film, GOATSUCKER.

Check out the DRIVE IN HORROR SHOW!

While flipping through one of my latest horror mags, I saw an add for DRIVE-IN HORROR SHOW! While I can't get much info on the plot, the trailer says it is 5 tales...not sure if they are all intertwined somehow or just 5 random tales, but from the sneak peak the teaser trailer gives you, it looks like it definitely has some potential! It looks to be a throwback to the great splatter flicks and monster flicks from the good 'ol drive-in days. Check it out!

DVD Review: COMBAT SHOCK

Released in 1986, COMBAT SHOCK was a gritty, disturbing indi film about a day in a the life of a Vietnam vet named Frankie trying to survive life back home in the city. Surrounded by his junkie friends, nagging wife, and their deformed baby, Frankie begins his journey on a downward spiral into madness. Broke, hungry, and being evicted from their apartment, Frankie has nothing to loose but his mind and sanity. Flashbacks from the war are spliced throughout the film and are the basis for most all the gore effects in the film. The acting is not bad by most everyone in the film (except for one of the tough "gangsters" that seems to be reading his lines off of cue cards!), and the use of unknown actors adds to the realism. As we see Frankie's day go from bad to worse, the entire movie is a build up to the last 10 minutes of the film when he decided to end his family's suffering the only way he knows how. The results are horrific and will definitely stick with you long after viewing the film. While not a great film by any means, it does succeed in doing what the filmmakers wanted it to do, which is to show you things that would truly shock you. While not as shocking to audiences today as it probably was over 20 years ago, it is still shocking enough to leave a lasting impression.
Troma Films has recently released COMBAT SHOCK in a 2-Disc, Uncut, 25th anniversary edition DVD. The 2nd disc contains tons of special features, most notable being a new documentary about the film and numerous short films from Director Buddy Giovinazzo's early career.

Confessions of a Horror movie buff.....I have never seen AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON

The newest issues of RUE MORGUE MAGAZINE is out, and this issue features the genre classic, AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON. It is with great regret that I let all my readers know, that I, Zombie Hayes, have never seen AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON. I have seen countless articles and interviews about the film, have heard many raves from fans across the country, and even had the chance to meet the star of the film, David Naughton. Yet here I am.....28 years after the film's release, and I have still not witnessed this classic John Landis (writer/director) film. Well, along with the magazine, a new special Edition DVD (and blu-ray) came out today, so I will pick up the film up this week and I promise to watch the film A.S.A.P. I am deeply ashamed, and hope all my horror fans can find it in there bloody heart to forgive me!

Check out the trailer for the new Horror/Sci-Fi hybrid, PANDORUM

While surfing the net today, I came across this trailer for a new movie called PANDORUM. Here is the plot direct from OvertureFilms.net:

Two crew members are stranded on a spacecraft and quickly - and horrifically - realize they are not alone. Two astronauts awaken in a hyper-sleep chamber aboard a seemingly abandoned spacecraft. It's pitch black, they are disoriented, and the only sound is a low rumble and creak from the belly of the ship. They can't remember anything: Who are they? What is their mission? With Lt. Payton staying behind to guide him via radio transmitter, Cpl. Bower ventures deep into the ship and begins to uncover a terrifying reality. Slowly the spacecraft's shocking, deadly secrets are revealed...and the astronauts find their own survival is more important than they could ever have imagined.

I am usually not a big fan of most Horror/Sci-Fi films, but this one looks really good! Check out the trailer below and then let me know what you think!

PLAN 9 FROM OUTER SPACE is being remade...

The classic Ed Wood feature PLAN 9 FROM OUTER SPACE is being remade and it is simply being called, PLAN 9. Directer John Johnson is shooting the feature with hopes of release in early to mid 2010. While the original film is considered by some to be the worst movie ever made, it is a classic among genre fans and a fun movie even if it does lack in some technical aspects (for those that have never seen the original, click the link below). There is already a teaser trailer out for the remake, and from the looks of it, I think it could be one of the best zombie films in years!

Watch the trailer for what Rue Morgue Magazine calls "THE BEST NAZI ZOMBIE MOVIE NEVER MADE"

While flipping back through some old issues of RUE MORGUE MAGAZINE, I came across an article they did on a Nazi Zombie Horror film called WORST CASE SCENARIO. The film has two remarkable trailers, that are really short films in themselves. These are some of the best trailers I have ever seen....the music and scenery is amazing. Bad news though, the filmmakers could not get the funding to make the full film. I find this hard to believe based on these wonderful trailers. Check out the full story at the official website for the film HERE (just click on the title of the film when the page opens to go deeper into the site).

Here is the first trailer...I love the music in this one...

Here is the second trailer....Zombies parachuting down from the sky, while maggots rain down on the kids below....both beautiful and disgusting at the same time. Brilliant!

New trailer for TRICK 'R TREAT

I was browsing Fangoria.com and came across this brand new trailer for the upcoming film, TRICK 'R TREAT. Here is the synopsis from imdb.com:

Five interwoven stories that occur on the same block, on the same night. A couple finds what happens when they blow a jack o' lantern out before midnight, a high school principal has a secret life as a serial killer, a college virgin might have met the right guy for her, a group of mean teens play a prank that they take too far, and a hermit is visited by a special trick or treater.
I have been waiting on this film for a while now. It has had multiple release date changes, which is usually not a good sign, but from the look of this trailer and the earlier trailer that was released, I think we might have a new Halloween classic on our hands!! TRICK 'R TREAT is due to arrive in stores on DVD October 6th.

Watch the trailer for the new Charles Manson based film, LESLIE, MY NAME IS EVIL

Here is a trailer that I am super excited about. I love true crime movies and books, so this looks great. It is a new film loosely based on the Manson Family murders. Here is the synopsis from Firstshowing.net:

Perry (Gregory Smith), a sheltered chemical engineer, falls in love with Leslie (Kristen Hager), a former homecoming princess, when he becomes a jury member at her hippie death cult murder trial. A film that explores how the choices Perry and Leslie make reflect upon the moral choices our society has made.

The trailer looks great, with lots of eerie imagery and scenes.

First clip from George Romero's new Zombie film: SURVIVAL OF THE DEAD

Good news for all your George Romero fans! Twitchfilm.net has just debuted the first clip from Romero's newest Zombie film: SURVIVAL OF THE DEAD.
Here is the basic premise courtesy of Twitchfilm.net:

In a world where the dead rise to menace the living, rogue soldier Crocket (Alan Van Sprang) leads a band of military dropouts to refuge from the endless chaos. As they search for a place "where the shit won't get you," they meet banished patriarch Patrick O'Flynn (played with zeal by Kenneth Welsh), who promises a new Eden on the fishing and ranching outpost Plum Island. The men arrive, only to find themselves caught in an age-old battle between O'Flynn's family and rival clan the Muldoons. It turns out that Patrick was expelled from the isle for believing that the only good zombie is a dead zombie, while the Muldoons think it's wrong to dispatch afflicted loved ones, attempting to look after their undead kinfolk until a cure is found. But their bid for stability on the homestead has turned perverse: the undead are chained inside their homes, pretending to live normal lives - and the consequences are bloody. A desperate struggle for survival will determine whether the living and the dead can coexist.

DVD Review: WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE

Let me start by saying I had not heard anything about this film before watching it. I found it in the cheap, previewed bin at my local Blockbuster for only $3.99 and just bought it because the cover looked cool and it had a cool story. I like the old Jungle/Cannibal movies such as CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST, CANNIBAL FEROX, etc, so I thought I would give this one a try. For that price, it's the same as renting it, so why not. I have bought a lot of these straight to DVD films, and while some (or most, actually) are not that great, you do find an unknown, underrated film sometimes. Well, I have found one for sure with WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE. This is honestly one of the most intense, scary films I have seen in a while. It takes a while to get to the really good stuff, but once it does, it doesn't let up. There are some superb special gore effects in the film. The plot is simple:
Two couples head to New Guinea in search of Michael Rockefeller, the son of the Vice President of the United States who disappeared there back in 1961. Recently, a friend of one one of the couples talked to a helicopter pilot that had spotted an old, white man along the banks of a river with some tribesmen. He looked to be in his late 60's or 70's and was rumored to be Michael Rockefeller whom everyone had considered dead years ago. The couples figure if they can find Mr. Rockefeller and record him on video, they could make big bucks selling the footage to the tabloids back in the U.S. Their trip is not nearly as easy as they thought it would be, dealing with locals not too happy to have them snooping around their territory. The two couples also have to deal with the fallout between themselves, to the point where they eventually split up into two separate parties. That is where the good stuff begins. As they travel down river on rafts, they see the local tribesmen in the bushes staring at them and following them along the banks, with bows and arrows pointed at them the whole time. This is a very suspenseful part of the film and extremely scary to me. That is a really creepy feeling to be somewhere like that where you know nothing about the surroundings and the people that inhabit the area are more like wild animals than humans. Very scary. I won't tell you what happens, but I will tell you the filmmakers don't pull any punches and don't give it a nice happy ending like so many other films have. The film was made in 2007 and released on an UNRATED DVD by DIMENSION EXTREME, which has been putting out some great DVD's lately. If you get a chance, check this movie out. It is one of the most underrated horror films of all time in my opinion. I don't know how this movie didn't get more publicity when it first came out.

Movie Review: THE FINAL DESTINATION 3D

I finally got a chance to go the THE FINAL DESTINATION 3D and I have to say that I LOVED it! Before I go any further, I know a lot of you "true" horror fans don't give the FINAL DESTINATION movies any respect. Obviously they are not films meant to be smart, make you think, or state a fact about society. They are made to have FUN. And that is just what they do. I have been thoroughly entertained by all of the FINAL DESTINATION movies. They are meant to be cheesy, campy, silly, and just plain fun, and that is what they are. I saw this movie with 4 of my buddies and we all had a great time. The 3D effects were great, but I think this still would have been a great film just watching it in regular 2D. There were some great, gory, kills, and actually quite a bit of comedy throughout it. If you get a chance, go see it while you can in 3D, it just makes it that much better, but still check it out on DVD if you don't get a chance to see it while in theaters. I honestly can say I enjoyed this one as much as any of the other films, maybe even more so. Part 2 had always been my favorite up till now, I think this one just took the prize!

ZOMBIES 101

What I would give to be enrolled in college these days. Back when I went to college, they taught us such un-useful topics such as Math, History, and Science. Now, colleges are finally starting to offer some classes on a topic we will actually use in our daily life: ZOMBIES!!!

That's right, Ole Miss is now offering a course titled "The Living and the Un-Dead" where students will watch zombie films, read zombie books and write a zombie research paper!

I hear it is a tough class, though, it really takes BRAAAAIIINS!!!!! (sorry, couldn't resist).

Movie Review: HALLOWEEN 2

Ok, so I wanted to like this film. I wanted to LOVE it. I really enjoyed Rob Zombie's first HALLOWEEN. It was a great remake..kept up with the original but still managed to put his spin on the character of Michael Myers. In HALLOWEEN 2, Rob Zombie just goes crazy with the character, and not in a good way. To me it was over the top. The violence was too graphic and brutal...and you don't find me saying that very often. I have seen tons of horror movies, but the violence in this film was just disturbing. Of course, you could say that quite an accomplishment for Rob Zombie, to make a movie that seems that real. I just found it off-putting. Michael does things in this film that he never does before, and the amount of blood is just crazy. I think that if this was an original movie of Rob Zombie's where he had created a new character and had nothing to do with HALLOWEEN or Michael Myers, it would be a good film. But this just wasn't the HALLOWEEN I know. The supernatural element with him seeing him as a kid and his mom every time was distracting. Also, Rob Zombie made the character of Dr. Loomis a real prick. I thought we are supposed to like Dr. Loomis? Anyway, it had some good visuals, but overall I felt a little let down.
If you have seen it, let me know your thoughts on HALLOWEEN 2.
