Check out the trailer for I SELL THE DEAD

I SELL THE DEAD is a new film that is a being called a horror/comedy, although the comedy aspect of it isn't very noticeable in this trailer. The release date for the film Aug 7. Click the link below to watch the trailer. I think it looks great! Here is the basic plot per imdb.com:

18th century justice catches up with a pair of grave robbers. With only a few hours to go before his date with the guillotine, Arthur Blake (Monaghan) tells his life story to Father Francis Duffy (Ron Perlman). Before long, Arthur spills the beans on how he got started in the grim corpse peddling business with seasoned ghoul Willie Grimes (Fessenden).

THE HORDE -- check out what looks to be a great new Zombie film!

Check out the trailer for the new zombie film, THE HORDE. THE HORDE is the directorial debut of the team of French filmmakers Yannick Dahan and Benjamin Rocher. THE HORDE tells the story of "an end of the world battle between gangsters, cops and zombies", according to IMDB.com. Sounds simple enough!
There are some great horror films coming out France lately...most notably MARTYRS and the films of Alexandre Aja. Lets hope this new film stands up to the French standard of these other excellent French horror films!

Kids are creepy! Don't believe me, then check out this trailer for THE CHILDREN

I was looking around online and came across the trailer for a film called THE CHILDREN. Written and Directed by Tom Shankland, THE CHILDREN tells the story of a Christmas vacation gone wrong, when all the kids start turning on their parents. This film is not to be confused with another film called THE CHILDREN which came out 1980, which happens to be one of my favorite all time horror films. More on that one later, but in the meantime, check out the new film THE CHILDREN coming to DVD this October.

Wow...tons of horror DVD's this week! This could cause a horror fan to become broke real fast! Luckily, most of the DVD's this week I can pass one. The only two I am really excited about is COMBAT SHOCK and REPULSION. COMBAT SHOCK is a gritty, nasty flick about a man who is back from the Vietnam war and falls deeper into insanity due to his rough, urban lifestyle.
REPULSION is Roman Polanski's 1965 masterpiece about a woman who basically goes insane with thoughts of her fears and desires. This is a Criterion Collection disc, so expect a great transfer, great extras, and great packaging as always. Of course, with this comes a great big price tag too (MRSP $39.95, but Amazon.com has it for $27.99).

PLATOON OF THE DEAD trailer.....don't get your hopes up.

I always love when I find out about a new zombie film, so I was super excited to hear about PLATOON OF THE DEAD. But...then I watched the trailer. I can't tell anything about the plot, other than the movie is about soldiers fighting zombies...most the time in the woods, other times in what looks to be peoples backyards. It looks like this could be a cool (though, obviously low, low, budget) film, but some of the "special" effects are pretty cheesy. And although only a small portion of dialog is spoken in this trailer, the little that is sounds pretty bad. But...I have not seen this film, so who am I to judge. It could end up being really good, or it could be really bad. Or..it could be so bad that it is actually pretty funny and enjoyable. Who knows?

You can buy a copy of the DVD by clicking HERE...but first, I would click HERE to watch the trailer to see what you think.

Check out the great short film, ZOMBIE-AMERICAN!

Check out this great short film (about 8 minutes) called ZOMBIE-AMERICAN. It is a short documentary made in 2005 about being a member of the walking dead in a living world. Glenn is a zombie living in New York City and dealing with the difficulties and prejudices that come with being in the minority. Glen gives you his side of the story, to make us see that zombies are really no different than ourselves. The film stars Ed Helms (Andy from "The Office") and was produced and directed by Nick Poppy. This is funny stuff, check it out!

I have been hearing about this film for quite some time, and finally, we have a trailer. THE HILLS RUN RED is supposed to be a great new horror film, full of good gore and scares.
Here is the synopsis from Shocktillyoudrop.com:

Directed by Dave Parker, Hills follows a film fanatic's obsession with finding a complete print of a classic slasher movie. It leads him and two friends into the backwoods where the film was shot. They realize too late that filming never ended -- the movie's star, the deformed, murderous Baby Face, and his twisted family continue to film and kill unsuspecting victims. Now our heroes must survive the nightmarish onslaught or become part of the movie forever.

Sounds pretty good, and looks good too! Tony Timpone from Fangoria.com called it "Nasty as Hell"! If someone from Fangoria calls it nasty, then that's a film I want to check out for sure! THE HILLS RUN RED is coming out on DVD September 29th.

Star Wars and Zombies!! It's a match made in heaven..or at least in a galaxy far, far, away!

I just read on the MatthewScottBaker.com blog (great Sci-Fi blog) about a new Star Wars book coming out. I love the Star Wars films, but just never could get into the books really. But that might be about to change. It has been announced that in October, the FIRST EVER STAR WARS HORROR NOVEL will be released! Titled STAR WARS: DEATH TROOPERS by Joe Schrieber, it pits a group of Prison Barge survivors against a death star full of ravenous Storm Trooper Zombies!! Not sure what the back story will be on how the Storm Troopers became zombies, but I guess we will find out soon! I know this post is a little more Sci-Fi than usual, but come on, it's Zombie Storm Troopers!! How cool is that!!!

Check out the trailer for the THE COLLECTOR

Check out the trailer for the up and coming horror film, THE COLLECTOR! The movie is about a guy named Arkin who breaks into a home to steal some jewelery, but once inside the house he realizes that he is not alone. Apparently, another more sinister person has already invaded the house and is holding the family of the house captive. Now Arkin is this family's only hope for survival. The concept is cool, and it looks like it will be full of creepy images and good scares. I am looking forward to this one. Release date is listed as July 31st.

Movie Review: MUM AND DAD

A couple nights ago I watched a great film from the U.K. called MUM AND DAD. It is a pretty disturbing film with lots of surreal images and situations. The basic plot is a "Mum and Dad" who have two "adopted" kids, Birdie and Elbie, that work at the airport. Apparently, their job is to "recruit" new kids to come join Mum and Dad's happy little family. The newest victim is Lena, she is tricked into going home with Birdie and Elbie one night and once she is in the house, Mum and Dad don't plan on letting her leave. This movie is hard to describe, but it is definitely worth seeing. It is not the typical watered down horror films we get in the U.S. most of the time, this is a gritty, violent, shocking film that you will not forget long after viewing it.

First pics of the new FREDDY KRUEGER!

For those of you that don't know, the 1984 classic horror film, A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET is being remade for a release on April 16th, 2010. Filming is underway, and today, the first pic of the new Freddy Krueger have been released! Freddy will be played by actor Jackie Earle Haley in this remake, taking the reigns from Robert Englund who played Freddy in the original film and all the sequels. This new pic is pretty dark...can't really tell much about him, but he looks to have the exact same "costume" as the original. I was hoping since they were using a new actor to play Freddy, that they would change him up a bit and make an entire new look for Freddy...oh well. A second pic is supposed to be released soon, so we will see what that one shows...for now, here is the first pic of the new Freddy Krueger!

Construction equipment gone wild!! KILLDOZER!!!

Check out this little gem. In 1974, a made for TV movie came out about a meteor that has a special power. This meteor is hit by a bulldozer, and then said meteor power is transferred to the bulldozer. This power basically makes the bulldozer "possessed", to the point where it now drives by itself and starts to kill people!!! This is no ordinary bulldozer.....no, this is KILLDOZER!!!!! This movie looks like it would be in the so bad it's good category!

This weeks Horror DVD releases: June 21st

Here are the Horror related DVD releases coming out tomorrow, Tuesday 7/21:
New feature--click the titles to watch the trailers!

*BUNDY -- Lionsgate
*CORALINE --Universal Studios
*GHOST MONTH (special edition, BD): North American
*HOLLYWOOD KILLS: Osiris
*MESSENGERS 2: THE SCARECROW - Sony
*SKELETON CREW: Lightning

Pretty weak selection this week....clink on the title of SKELETON CREW in the list above to watch the trailer, it looks like it could actually be pretty good. It is the story of a director and actors getting together to make a horror movie about a guy that used to make real snuff films. Apparently the director finds the original snuff films and watches them for research. He then decides his movie and fake effects can't live up the the realism of a real snuff film and, well, I bet you can guess what happens next! That might be one to check out!

THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT 10th anniversary...what did YOU think of this film?

The new issue of RUE MORGUE MAGAZINE is out and this month's cover story is a look back at the most successful independent film of all time, THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT. It is the 10th anniversary of the film, so I thought I would see what you thought of this film. While not every horror fan liked the movie, just about everyone went to see it in the theater. It was made for around $35,000 dollars and grossed around $250 million worldwide! I was actually one of the ones that didn't care for this film. While hyped more than any movie I can remember, I recall it being a huge let down for me upon finally viewing the film. As you recall, there was a huge Internet campaign, which is pretty common now, but a fairly new marketing approach at the time. Also, the film company tried to (with great results) get people to think this was a real documentary and that the film was the "lost footage" actually found years later that showed the "missing" kids and what happened to them. Even though I knew this was not true, and it was just a regular horror movie, I was still pumped to see it after hearing so much about it. I remember sitting in the theater and wondering "when it was going to pick up and get better". It seemed to be that the only thing the filmmakers were using to try to scare us were spooky sounds and sticks hanging from trees. Sticks aren't that scary to me...especially if you are in the woods (sticks belong there!)! Anyway, I remember it starting to get good....the kids go into the house at the end to see their buddy standing in a corner......what is going to happen now, I asked? Is something going to come out and get him? And do you remember what happened? The screen went blank and the credits starting rolling. Um...excuse me, did we forget something here? Are we really going to have the climax of the film being that we see a guy standing in the corner? Oh well. I remember some friends I was with being totally freaked out and thinking it was the scariest thing they ever saw. I just didn't get it. Nothing about that movie was scary to me. I have to admit though, that was the one and only time I saw this film. I didn't care for it, so I never bothered to re-visit it on video/DVD. Maybe I should....maybe in my house with all the lights out it would be scarier, or maybe all the scares they left off screen for you to imagine would be better with 10 more years of my developing mind. Who knows. Anyway, that is my view, and I would like to hear yours! Did you like this movie? Did it actually scare you? Discuss!

Check out the trailer for the new lost at sea thriller, TRIANGLE

Check out the new thriller called TRIANGLE (short for Burmuda Triangle) about a group of friends who go sailing for the day, and get caught in a storm they barely survive. When a huge cruise ship pulls up beside them, they think all there troubles are behind them. But in reality, their troubles are just starting! From the trailer, this movie looks like it could be really good, or a really big letdown. The killer in the sack mask looks sweet, so it looks like it is going to be a killer/slasher type film, but then there are also lots of supernatural twists which make it seem more like a ghost story type film. Not sure quite what to make of it at this point. Maybe another trailer will surface soon. There are some cool images in this trailer (the bodies at the end looks cool)...check it out and let me know what you think!

It's Christmas in July! Check out the short film, TREEVENGE!

Thanks to the folks at Twitch.com for bringing us this Christmas themed short film, TREEVENGE! Directed by Jason Eisener, TREEVENGE tells the story of a Christmas when all the Christmas trees get their revenge. Apparently they are tired of being chopped and sawed down and put into torturing devices (Christmas tree stands) and then decorated and humiliated! This year they have had enough and aren't taking it any more. The film is approx 16 mins long (including credits). It starts out kinda slow, but once the trees begin attacking, it is a non-stop gore fest! This is a great short film and I highly recommend you go watch this right now!! Like Jaws did for the ocean, and Psycho did for the shower, TREEVENGE will make you think twice about turning your back on your Christmas tree this year!!

BLOOD: THE LAST VAMPIRE....check out this trailer!

Here is the trailer for a new movie coming out called BLOOD: THE LAST VAMPIRE. I love martial arts movies, and I obviously love horror movies, and this looks like a cool blend of the two genres.
Here is the synopsis from the official website of the film:

From a Producer of Hero and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon comes BLOOD: THE LAST VAMPIRE, based on the cult hit anime series. Demons have infested the Earth. And only one warrior stands between the dark and the light: Saya, a half-human, half-vampire samurai who preys on those who feast on human blood. Joining forces with the shadowy society known as the Council, Saya is dispatched to an American military base, where an intense series of swordfights leads her to the deadliest vampire of all. And now after 400 years, Saya's greatest hunt is about to begin.

For the fans of HERO, CROUCHING TIGER, HOUSE OF FLYING DAGGERS, and other films of those sorts, you know what to expect. Great stories, great acting, and even greater visual effects. Those things mixed together within a horror story should make for an awesome flick!!

Movie review: GUTTERBALLS

I had heard of this movie for a while, read many reviews, and was really looking forward to it. I was so excited when my special order came in at my local DVD shop, only to be disappointed upon finally viewing the film. The film's story takes place in a bowling alley. Two groups of "friends" meet there for a bowling challenge after hours. (Someone knows the owner....Which I won't tell you for fears of spoiling the ending). Anyway, one night after a dispute erupts, one of the girls from one group is brutally raped by the guys from the other group. Then, the next night they all meet up again for a bowling game rematch. This time though, when the game is over, no one gets to go home. The doors are locked and the killing starts. One by one the guys involved with the brutal act are killed off in very gruesome and gory ways by a masked killer. While this could have been a great horror film, it fails for many reasons. One, the rape scene is showed in full. It is very graphic, violent, and disturbing. Now, being the horror fan that I am...I like my horror movies to be violent, graphic, and disturbing, but not when it comes to the serious subject of rape. There was no reason to show all of it, and it seemed like it went on for at least 10 minutes. Now, I know the reason for this was to set up the reason for the killer seeking revenge and to make you dislike these characters, but showing it like it did was an obvious attempt by the director to just plain shock and appal you, and for that reason, I guess he succeeds.

Another reason this movie fails is the killer himself. Remember I mentioned a "masked killer". Well....the killer wears a bowling bag over his head. That's right...a bowling bag. Silliest killer mask I have ever seen. Really takes the shock and suspense out of a movie when you immediately start laughing every time you see the killer!

The last reason I didn't like this movie is the characters. They are all super annoying. Especially the character of Steve. All he does is yell, complain, put people down (even the friends he came with), and gripe at everybody to "bring him a beer". He also finds the need to use profanity in a at least one out of every 3 words he speaks (or yells, actually). Seriously, he yells at everybody through the whole film...it's really annoying! The only good thing this movie has going for it is the gore effects. They are really good and plentiful, so you should like that. Other than that, this movie is a "gutterball" itself. "Spare" yourself and skip it. This movie did not "strike" my fancy! Ha ha...ok, I am done with the bowling jokes now, unless I can think of a few more........

I am producing a new horror film....and you can too!

This is some extremely exciting news. The filmmakers of a new horror/comedy film called SLAYERS: THE UNDEAD VS. THE BRAINDEAD is letting you become a a producer!! You can choose your level of involvement (and payment) and became a Producer, an Associate Producer, or an Executive Producer. You will then be issued a password to get into the Producer's restricted access part of the website. Here, you can look at video of actors reading scenes and trying out for certain parts. After you watch them all, YOU vote on who you thought did the best job and should be in the film. As the movie progresses, you can watch the scenes that have just been shot and if there is anything you don't like or think that should be done, you can post a comment to the filmmakers. This is a very cool concept, fun for us viewers, and an ingenious way to raise the money needed for a low budget horror flick.

Movie review: KILLER KLOWNS FROM OUTER SPACE

KILLER KLOWNS FROM OUTER SPACE is a great horror/comedy that came out way back in 1988. I remember seeing this movie in Jr. High and thinking it was one of the greatest movies ever! I hadn't seen it in over 10 years, so thought I would re-watch it to see if it was still as good as I remember and to see if it held up over all those years. I am happy to say, it was as good as I remembered even today. The effects are cheesy, but they were cheesy even back in 1988 when the movie came out. That was part of the charm and, intentional or not, added to the comedic factor of the film.

The basic premise is a group of clowns, er Klowns, comes down to earth in a space ship that resembles a big top circus tent! Or should that be Kircus tent? Anyway, the spaceship/tent lands in the forest and a group of nosey teenagers set out to see what it is exactly. They go in the spaceship and find that some of the local townsfolk are being hidden away in big pods of Cotton Candy like a Cocoon!!

Tons of cheesy dialog also adds to the laugh factor. My favorite bit of dialog from the film:

Girl: "Why are they shooting popcorn at us?"
Boy: (in a irritated tone) "Because they're clowns!!"

This weeks Horror DVD releases: July 7

Here are the Horror related DVD's coming out today, July 7th:

DEADWOOD (special edition): Lionsgate
EVIL BONG 2: KING BONG (special edition): Full Moon
KNOWING: Summit
NEAR DARK (re-release): Lionsgate
ONE MISSED CALL 3: FINAL (2-disc special edition): Tokyo Shock/Media Blasters
THE UNBORN (special edition): Universal

Another VERY weak week in Horror releases in my opinion. THE UNBORN was o.k...I saw it in the theater, but wish I would have waited to rent it on DVD. NEAR DARK is considered a classic vampire movie by some, so if you haven't got that, it might be worth picking up on DVD. But, be warned, this new re-release is an obvious attempt to cash in on the TWILIGHT series that is so popular right now. I would look for the earlier DVD release from a few years back, which includes better special features.

Until next time, stay scared!!

SPLATTER MOVIE: THE DIRECTORS CUT trailer and info

SPLATTER MOVIE: THE DIRECTOR CUT is a film I just heard about and I just checked out the trailer. Looks like it could be a cool little film...obviously very low budget, do-it-yourself type film, but still looks to be a lot of fun. The story is about a group of filmmakers who are making a horror film called "Tesseract". But when the actors actually start turning up dead, they realize the movie is a little to close to reality.

New virus movie....CARRIERS

I just found this trailer for a new movie called CARRIERS. It looks like a creepy tale of a virus outbreak. Kinda reminds me of a 28 DAYS LATER type of film. I love these types of movies. This film is about 4 friends that are fleeing a viral pandemic and while that is scary enough, sometimes the way people react in that kind of situation can be even scarier.

This film looks really good and it set to hit theaters in September. While originally planned for straight to DVD release, it looks like it will get the theater treatment thanks to one of the stars, Chris Pine. Chris played Capt. Kirk in the new Star Trek film, so his sudden popularity helped this film get a theatrical release.

DEADGIRL trailer. That's all I'm sayin.....

Ok...I am always looking for crazy, off the wall, absurd, horror films. Well, I found DEADGIRL.

The story of a couple of guys goofing around in an old abandoned mental hospital who wander down to the basement and find a dead girl...or is she? This one is definitely worth checking out.
