Horror in real life: The Mississippi Highway Killer

In what sounds like something straight out of a horror movie, a person in Mississippi is pulling people over on the highway, posing as a police officer, and then shooting the people dead.  This is a from a story I saw on CNN.com last week.  The story states:

The first shooting occurred on May 8. Thomas Schlender, 74, was found dead about 1:30 a.m. in his car in the median of southbound Interstate 55 in Panola County.

On Friday, May 11, Lori Anne Carswell, 48, was found dead outside her car on the shoulder of Mississippi State Highway 713, in Tunica County, about 2:15 a.m.

Yikes!  Nothing scarier than being hurt by those that are supposed to be good and trustworthy.   This is really scary and drivers in Mississippi need to be extra careful.  In fact the story states that:

Authorities were asking citizens to be careful if they are pulled over and feel uneasy.
They advise drivers to call 911 and verify that a legitimate officer is pulling them over or drive to a well-lit, crowded place before stopping, actions permitted under Mississippi state law.

So, if you are driving through Mississippi, be extra careful, especially if you are in a remote area.  The suggestion to drive to a well lit, public place if you are being pulled over is great advice.  Don't just pull over on the side of a remote highway.

Any bets on how soon we see this story as the plot of a new horror movie?
