DVD Review: KILLER RACK (2015)

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3369624/?ref_=nv_sr_1KILLER RACK
Directed by
Distributed by  Camp Motion Pictures

  With a name like that, it's gotta be good!  Right?  Well, I gotta hand it to the filmmakers for the amazing play on words, and I can't believe it's never been done until now!  The film is KILLER RACK and I am proud to say it is lots of fun!   Here is the plot synopsis from the Camp Motion Pictures website:

  From the director of Slime City comes a screwball horror comedy about a murderous set of monstrous mammaries: Killer Rack!
  In a world that prizes breast size over accomplishments, Betty Downer just can’t get a break.  Scorned by her co-workers, ridiculed by her boyfriend and overlooked by her boss, Betty impulsively books breast enhancement surgery with the Elder Gods-worshipping Dr. Cate Thulu...and then all hell breaks loose!

  First off, go into this film realizing it's more of a comedy than it is a horror film, although there are elements of horror all throughout it, as well as some fun, over the top gore.   It is very campy and silly, but that makes it a lot of fun!  The film reminds me a lot of a Troma film, especially since even Lloyd Kaufman  has a brief cameo in the film! Also, the wonderful Debbie Rochon  is in the film as the mad doctor, Cate Thulu.  Again, great play on words there!  The film also has one of my new genre favorites, the beautiful Brooke Lewis as the voice of the "killer rack".  Yes, the boobs talk.  I told you it was pretty silly!

  Not only do the boobs talk, but they kill!  Yes, they might look good at first, but if you happen to get an up close and personal look at them, you can kiss your hand or even head goodbye!   The killer rack has a mouth/teeth where the nipples usually are and they get a lot of action!    This is where some great gore comes into play, as well as some very cheesy CGI effects when the boobs sprout tentacle like things that come out and kill!   I guess if you got implants from Dr. Cate Thulu, that is bound to happen!

  If you like fun, campy horror, check out KILLER RACK.  It is available now from Camp Motion Pictures and contains the following special features:

*  Commentary Track
*  Deleted Scenes
*  Behind the Scenes Featurette
*  Bonus Short Films
*  Trailers

Blu-ray Review: MICROWAVE MASSACRE (1983)

http://mvdb2b.com/s/MicrowaveMassacreBlurayDVD/AV062MICROWAVE MASSACRE
Directed by
Distributed by Arrow Films / MVD Entertainment Group

  Finally!  I have always heard of MICROWAVE MASSACRE, but trying to get my hands on a copy of it was extremely hard to do!  The DVD was out of print for a long time, so copies were extremely pricey.  Luckily, the great folks at Arrow Video have released this film on an amazing Blu-ray/DVD combo pack!    For those not familiar with the film, here is the basic plot from the MVD website:

 THEY CAME FOR DINNER...TO FIND THEY WERE IT!! Microwave Massacre stars legendary stand-up comedian and actor Jackie Vernon as Donald, a disgruntled construction worker whose wife's predilection for haute cuisine drives him to cannibalism. Donald unwittingly stumbles upon a solution to his two major problems in his life - his nagging wife and his lack of tasty meals - when, one night, he bludgeons his better half to death with a pepper grinder in a drunken rage. Thinking on his feet, Donald dismembers the body and sets about microwaving the remains, which turn out to be rather delicious. Trouble is, now he's got a taste for human flesh that needs satisfying... Eschewing all notions of good taste, Wayne Berwick's Microwave Massacre is a deliciously depraved exercise in political incorrectness that has gone on to gain a cult following thanks to a characteristically deadpan performance from lead Vernon, who delivers such choice lines as "I'm so hungry I could eat a whore". Vegetarians need not apply!

  Now I must warn you, the cover of the old DVD release touted this film as "The worst horror movie ever made".   So going into this film, I was kind of expecting a "so bad, it's good" type of experience.  Well, I am proud to say that is exactly what I got.   I would definitely not consider this the worst horror movie ever made, I have seen far worse for sure!  That being said, it was pretty bad over all, but it was also extremely fun and  full of character. The dialog is pretty cheesy, and the blood/gore is pretty fake looking, but that is all part of the charm that this film displays.

The film reminded me of a cross between a Troma film and a Herschell Gordon Lewis film.  If you are fans of those type of movies, you will love this one.   This movie was so much fun, I definitely see myself watching it again in the near future.  This is a must have for cheesy B-grade (or maybe even C-grade) horror!

 MICROWAVE MASSACRE will be available on 8/16 and will contain the following special features:

*  Brand new 2K restoration of the original camera negative
*  High Definition Blu-ray (1080p) and Standard Definition DVD presentations
*  Original Mono audio (uncompressed PCM on the Blu-ray)
*  Optional English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing
*  Brand new audio commentary with writer-producer Craig Muckler moderated by Mike Tristano
*  Brand new making-of featurette including interviews with Muckler, director Wayne Berwick and actor Loren Schein

Blu-ray Review: NIGHTMARE WEEKEND (1986)

http://vinegarsyndrome.com/shop/nightmare-weekend/NIGHTMARE WEEKEND
Directed by
Distributed by Vinegar Syndrome

  Let me start by saying I LOVE the 80's.  I love everything about that decade.  It is the decade I grew up in and have such fond memories from.  I love the wacky music, the crazy clothes and the weird and wild movies.    I truly think the 1980s was the best decade for horror films, followed closely by the 1970's.    NIGHTMARE WEEKEND is a perfect example of a wild, crazy, 1980's horror film.   Here is the basic plot from the Vinegar Syndrome website:

  A brilliant computer scientist has just finished work on his greatest creation: a super computer with the ability to transform the personalities of bad and disobedient people. In anticipation of sharing his work with the scientific community, the scientist invites a fellow expert to test the machine on a group of debauched young women. Little does he know that his colleague intends to use the computer to turn their subjects into bloodthirsty mutants!
  Made by a French crew in Florida, NIGHTMARE WEEKEND is a non-stop assault on the senses. Head explosions, gratuitous nudity and softcore sex, bikers, roller-skating, and a telepathic hand puppet named George rank NIGHTMARE WEEKEND among the weirdest and most jaw droppingly absurd horror films of the 1980s. Long available only in low quality transfers of the R rated version, Vinegar Syndrome presents this forgotten trash masterpiece fully uncut and in widescreen, on Blu-ray for the first time!

  You can tell this film is from the 80's as it is very dated with the wardrobe and props, but I have to admit it was fun seeing guys with huge Walkmans and earphones and women doing jazzercize and roller skating!    While that was a lot fun and brought back some memories, the film itself was a lot of fun, although it was very strange.  In fact, one of the main characters is a talking hand puppet.  I still don't quite get how he fit into this film, but the actors act like he is just any other co-star and act totally normal with the puppet as a character.  Very weird for sure...and again, only from a movie from the 80's!

  The film has some great gore scenes for fans of that (aren't we all), some great kills, and some great action, including a killer car that is controlled by a video game!?  Ha!  Did I mention how crazy and weird this film was?   This is a film you will need to check out for sure if you have never seen it.  This is such a nostalgic 80s flick and one that surely belongs in any DVD/BD collector's library!

  NIGHTMARE WEEKEND is available now on DVD/Blu-ray combo pack from Vinegar Syndrome and contains the following special features:

*  Blu-ray/DVD Combo | Region Free | 1.85:1 OAR
*  Restored in 2k from 35mm internegative

*  “KILLER WEEKEND” – An Interview with Marc Gottlieb (13min)

Happy New Years!!

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0082806/

 I hope you all had a wonderful (and safe) New Year's celebration!  Enjoy the day with your friends and family, and watch a great horror movie!  I suggest you watch the 1980 classic NEW YEAR'S EVIL!    Ok, I honestly don't know if it's good or not, I admit I have never seen it.  It looks pretty campy from the trailer, though, so I bet I would love it!  I will be looking for a DVD copy of this one for sure!  Check out the trailer and let me know if you have ever seen this one!
