Check out the award winning short film, DAWN OF THE DEAF

http://www.dawnofthedeafmovie.com/

When I first saw the title for this film, I thought it was going to be a zombie parody movie that was probably going to be pretty non-pc and offensive to the deaf community.  Boy was I wrong!    This is not a comedy or spoof movie by any means.  In fact, DAWN OF THE DEAF is one of the best short films I have ever seen!   Here is the basic plot from the film's official website:

When a strange sound wipes out the hearing population, a small group of Deaf people must band together to survive.

I had no idea what to expect when I watched this film, but what I got was one of the most entertaining 12 minutes I have seen in a long time.   The film is brilliant and definitely makes me want to see more.

The film was directed by Rob Savage, and Mr. Savage, if you're reading this, I really hope that you are considering making this into a feature length film!

Watch the film below and then leave a comment to let me know what you think!

Here is another great horror short film you need to check out! BRUTAL RELAX

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1806827/

Here is another must see horror short.  It is a Spanish film called BRUTAL RELAX  and was written by , and directed by Adrián Cardona, Rafa Dengrá, and David Muñoz.  A huge thanks to my buddy Scott over at the Shattered Ravings Blog for telling me about this film.  Here is the plot of the film from Fearnet.com:

Going into a rage has never been as much fun as it is in this over-the-top Spanish Horror-Comedy. Mr. Olivares has already recovered, but now he needs a vacation to go to some heavenly place where he can relax and blithely enjoy himself. A group of Deep Ones will destroy his expectations.

This is an awesome film, full of great gore.  I am usually not a fan of CG gore, but this is done very well and actually looks really good.

The short is not safe for work, as it does contain tons of gore and some nudity, so be advised.
Check it out and let me know what you think by leaving a comment below.  I would love to see these filmmakers team up again for a full length feature someday!

Check out the brutal, violent, yet remarkable short film, SICKO

http://vimeo.com/70870269  I am a huge fan of horror short films, and I have just watched one that was extremely effective.   The film is called SICKO from filmmakers Vincent Gallagher & Luke Adey.  The film is very short, and very simple, yet was very unnerving and disturbing.  Pretty good for a film running just over 5 minutes long!

The film was shot in a very cool style.  It is very atmospheric and creepy, especially with the choice of the perfect music that really set the tone for the film.  The unique first person perspective used in the prostitute beating was remarkable.

Take this warning, though. SICKO is called that for a reason. The film starts off in a very weird, twisted, way and continues that way throughout the film.  This film is definitely for adults only!

Give this short a watch and then check out some of the other great films from Gallagher's production company, Tape End Productions.

Check out the great student filmed zombie short film, KEG OF THE DEAD!

Check out this great zombie short film that I found that was mentioned in my Zombie Page-a-Day calendar.  It's called KEG OF THE DEAD, an 8 minute short film made back in 2006 and shot at the TKE house at UC Berkley.  The film is about a pizza delivery guy that is late for his delivery at the frat house, and doesn't get paid and gets humiliated by the frat guys.   At the same time, zombies start to attack the frat house and the pizza delivery guy turns out to be the hero and save the day!  Check out this great film which includes some great gore and effects!

Check out this great short film my buddy Caleb told me about earlier this week titled DON'T MOVE.  The film is about a group of friends playing with a Ouija board that unleash a demon among them.  DON'T MOVE was written by  and directed by .  The film is very well made with some really good gore.  The film is part of the U.K. series of short films called Bloody Cuts.   I will have to check out some of the other films from this series, hopefully they are all this good!

Check out the cool zombie short film, DAY 31

Check out this cool zombie short film I ran across on YouTube.  The title is DAY 31 and it was written and directed by Charlie Goldberg.   This isn't your typical zombie film...these aren't the classic "raised from the dead" zombies, this film is about zombies created from a viral infection that has spread over the entire world.  The film is about a man named Kyle Parker who is immune to the virus.  He is searching the surroundings for food and supplies.   The film end rather abruptly, with no real closure....which kinda bugged me, but mainly just kept me wanting more.  I assume it was done this way to pave the way for a sequel or maybe even a feature length film.   Check it out....this is a very simple film with only one main character and just some voice over dialog.  Great cinematography, too!   Perfect example of a great low-budget short.

Check out the awesome zombie short film, KIDZ

Earlier this year, my zombie page-a-day calendar (yes, I have one of these) mentioned a short zombie film called KIDZ.   Well, I checked it out tonight, and it is definitely something worth passing along to you.   KIDZ is a short (5 mins) film about a trio of kids that band together after their parents are killed during a zombie outbreak.  Although you can tell the film was made for super cheap, some of the gore effects are really well done and look very professional.  Check this film out and let me know what you think!
