DVD Review: MY MASTER SATAN: 3 TALES OF DRUG FUELED VIOLENCE (2016)

http://www.storenvy.com/products/17146539-my-master-satan-3-tales-of-drug-fueled-violence-dvdMY MASTER SATAN:  3 TALES OF DRUG FUELED VIOLENCE
Written & Directed by:

Let me start off my saying this is not the type of film I would normally review.  I am not a fan of Satan at all, and [as a Christian] I in no way promote the glorification of Satan or devil worship.  What I do support is independent filmmakers, no matter what the subject matter (to an extent).   This is true independent horror, self distributed by the filmmaker through his store envy site.  This is underground filmmaking at it's extreme.  Before I go any further, here is the plot synopsis from the film's IMDB.com page:

My Master Satan: 3 Tales of Drug Fueled Violence is an anthology horror film that features three tales that revolve around serial killer/druggie Alister (Dakota Bailey) & his equally demented serial killer friends Woody, Charlie and Bubba & takes the viewer deep into a seedy underworld of crime, drugs, depravity & murder. In the first tale, Bubba (Matt Marshall) enlists Alister's help to exhume the corpse of his deceased unfaithful wife who he murdered. Afterwards the two of them decide to take some LSD resulting in an acid trip where they briefly see Satan.
The second tale follows Alister and his twisted friend Charlie (Brian Knapp) as they go out at night committing murder, & other deviant acts.
Finally in the third and final tale, Alister & Bubba go on a quest for more LSD, meeting their serial killer friend Woody and committing violent acts along the way, and finally having the ultimate ritualistic acid trip that once again brings them face to face with Satan himself.

If you are a fan of underground, raw, violent cinema, this film will be right up your alley!  Think AUGUST UNDERGROUND TRILOGY or AMERIKAN HOLOKAUST.  These are films that  MY MASTER SATAN reminded me of.   The film was shot over 20015-2016, but it was shot with what looks like a VHS recorder and was made to look older and very rough.  This is intentional for sure, and definitely adds to the gritty feel of the film.   There are some great effects, although quite a few are cutaway scenes, but still effective.  The intentionally bad film/sound quality make this film feel very real, which makes for a very disturbing viewing experience!

Hardcore underground film lovers should give this one a shot for sure.   DVDs are on sale now for only $5.99 + shipping!

DVD Review: SNUFF (1976)

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0072184/?ref_=fn_tt_tt_2SNUFF
Distributed by Blue Underground

Blue Underground continues to put out some great DVDs and Blu-rays, and one of their latest is the 1976 shock films, SNUFF!   Here is the plot synopsis from the Blue Underground website:

Deep in South America, a Manson-like cult leader named Satan cavorts with his bevy of beautiful biker-chick followers while compelling them to kill in his name. When sexy American actress Terry London arrives with producer Max Marsh to shoot a new movie there, the creepy cult targets her and her friends with plans of murder, mayhem and the grisly sacrifice of her unborn baby. Is the final bloody massacre only a movie? Or is it the shocking footage of an actual murder committed before the camera?
Originally lensed as THE SLAUGHTER by notorious filmmakers Michael and Roberta Findlay (SHRIEK OF THE MUTILATED, TAKE ME NAKED), the movie sat on the shelf for five years until enterprising producer/distributor Allan Shackleton devised a controversial new ending and released it as SNUFF. Freshly transferred in High Definition from one of the only remaining prints, now the fascinating true story behind this infamous piece of trash cinema can finally be told... by those who survived!

I had seen this movie years ago, but I really didn't remember anything about it.  Its a very unique film as it almost feels like 2 movies in one. The first part feels like your watching a movie about the Manson family, with a cult leader that sends his women followers out on a killing streak. Some of the kills are very good and especially brutal for the 1970's.

The 2nd part of the film is where we get into the real selling point for the film.   The last part of the film we see a woman strapped down and brutalized, beginning with her fingers being cut off with a pair of pruning shears. This was a remarkably well done effect, as it looks completely real..  In fact, I'm still not sure how they did this effect.  The only thing that lets you know it's fake is the fake blood that is used throughout the film, that looks like a very bright red thick paint.  Other than that, this scene will make even the most veteran horror fan cringe.

I'm not sure if there were any movies like this before SNUFF, if there are I am not aware.  If this was a first, then this film helped pave the way for movies such as the Japanese Guinea Pig films from the 1980's to the more recent HOSTEL films.  This is one you will definitely want to check out if you are a gore fan.

SNUFF is available now from Blue Underground and contains the following special features:

The notorious GUINNEA PIG series is being revived in the new AMERICAN GUINNEA PIG films!

If you are a fan of horror, especially gore films, then you surely know about the Japanese GUINNEA PIG series of films.  These included the titles DEVIL'S EXPERIMENT, ANDROID OF NOTRE DAME, MERMAID IN A MANHOLE, and FLOWER OF FLESH AND BLOOD as well as  few others.  These films were known for their graphic violence and realistic looking gore.  In fact, they looked so realistic that many times the films were thought to be actual snuff films, launching actual police investigations into the films and their creators.

The great folks at Unearthed Films brought these films to the U.S. with an excellent box set years ago.  Now, the founder of Unearthed Films, Stephen Biro, is bringing the Guinea Pig series back in a BIG way!   Mr. Biro will be directing the first  installment of a new revamping of the series called, aptly named, AMERICAN GUINEA PIG!  The first film in this new series is titled BOUQUET OF GUTS AND GORE.   I think that title pretty much sums up what you will see in this new series of films.  I know I am super excited for this new project!  Here are some pics from the first film that will give you a small sampling of what is in store for you with the new AMERICAN GUINEA PIG films!

Keep in mind these are the somewhat "tame" pics that I can show on my site!  I have seen some other pics from the film and they look like they are really giving these films all they got in terms of the blood and gore.  Mr. Biro is not holding anything back and it looks like he is going to give us gore fans something we haven't seen in a long time!

Stay tuned and I will pass on more details once they are available!  Also, like the AMERICAN GUINEA PIG Facebook page for more info and details!

DVD Review: GUT (2012)

GUT
Written and Directed by

I got a film a while back to review called GUT.  I  had never heard of the film, and knew little about it, but the trailer looked very promising.   I finally had a chance to check it out last night and I am very glad I did.  This is a very well made film...very creepy and atmospheric. Here is the plot from the film's imdb page:

Something is missing in Tom's life. Every day he goes through the motions, becoming increasingly detached from those around him. His best friend Dan thinks he has the answer, a mysterious video he's got to see to believe. What Dan shows him leaves Tom unsettled, flooding his mind with disturbing images and desires, and binding the two friends together with its ugly secret. As he tries desperately to forget what he saw, Tom's mounting feelings of guilt and disillusionment quickly give way to paranoia and fear. One video soon follows another and another, blurring the line between reality and voyeuristic fascination, and threatening to dismantle everything around them.

This is a very strange movie, which is the kind of movie I like.  It had the feel of a David Cronenberg film to me.  I have to warn you that the film is slow at times..but even during the slow times, there is a sense of unease, as you wonder what is going to come next.  There is a constant unnerving feel as you watch this film.

Although I've seen some critique of the acting on some other reviews, I found the acting to be very believable.  I especially liked the part of Dan played by Nicholas Wilder, as this character brought some instances of comic relief to an otherwise very grim tale.

Give this movie a shot and stay with it to the end, and you will be treated to one very disturbing final act.  GUT is one of those films that is hard to say you liked, because it is a not a fun, happy film.  But it is a movie that is very well made, and is worth a viewing in my opinion.  More dark drama, than horror, the film still has some horror elements to it and a good bit of gore.  Check this one out for sure.

GUT is available now to Rent/Own at Amazon, Vudu, Xbox, Playstation, CinemaNow, Google Play & YouTube!
