Check out the trailer for PRO WRESTLERS VS. ZOMBIES

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2240046/?ref_=nv_sr_1 Ok, when I first heard about this film, I had every intention of posting it for you all to see more as a joke than anything. But when I actually went out and watched the trailer, well....it actually looks like this could be a really fun movie!   The movie is called PRO WRESTLERS VS. ZOMBIES and it is exactly what you think it is.   Here is the official plot synopsis from the film's imdb.com page:

T  he Franchise Shane Douglas accidentally kills a wrestler in the ring. The wrestler's brother Angus seeks revenge by surrendering his soul to an ancient demon to gain the power to raise the undead. Angus then pays for a private show at an empty prison to lure Douglas and his friend Rowdy Roddy Piper into a death trap.

The film stars some of the biggest names in Pro Wrestling history, including "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan, Kurt Angle, Shane Douglas, Matt Hardy, and Rowdy Roddy Piper!   The movie looks pretty low budget, but still looks like it could be very entertaining.  Some of the gore scenes shown in the trailer look like a lot of fun!   Check out the trailer and let me know what you think!

What if.....FULL HOUSE was a horror movie?!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7m4-lSllrXk

Ha!  If you were a fan of the TV show FULL HOUSE, you should get a kick out of what fan Jay Somsen did for a movie trailer assignment for the Seattle Film Institute.  He takes the wholesome Tanner household and turns it into what looks like a nuthouse!  It's amazing what some different music and some re-editing can do for the look of a show.  Pretty creepy!!

CLICK HERE to watch the FULL HOUSE video.

This reminds me of some other shows and films that have been re-edited to look like horror films!  Here are some you might want to check out:

Check out horror author Brian Moreland's newest novella, THE VAGRANTS!

If you don't know the name Brian Moreland, you should.  He is one of the best horror writers working today.  I've had a chance to meet Mr. Moreland on a couple of occasions, once at the 2013 Texas Frightmare Weekend Horror Convention, and then again earlier this month at the same convention.  He is one of the nicest guys you could ever meet.  I have mentioned his books on my blog before, and contributing writer Scott Baker did a great review of Mr. Morelands book, DEAD OF WINTER way back in 2011!  You can read that review here.  Since then, Mr. Moreland has written a lot more books, all of which are available through his website, www.brianmoreland.com.

The newest book from Mr. Moreland is his novella called, THE VAGRANTS, which comes out in just a couple of weeks  (June 3rd).  Here is the synopsis of the story:

Journalist Daniel Finley is determined to save the impoverished of the world. But the abandoned part of humanity has a dark side too. While living under a bridge with the homeless for six months, Daniel witnessed something terrifying. Something that nearly cost him his sanity.
Now, two years later, he’s published a book that exposes a deadly underground cult and its charismatic leader. And Daniel fears the vagrants are after him because of it. At the same time, his father is being terrorized by vicious mobsters. As he desperately tries to help his father, Daniel gets caught up in the middle of a war between the Irish-American mafia and a deranged cult of homeless people who are preparing to shed blood on the streets of Boston.

I don't know anything scarier than a book about a deranged cult of homeless people!  Ha!  Check out the novella June 3rd.  It will be available in Kindle, Nook, and other ebook formats.

Blu-ray Review: COUNTESS DRACULA (1971)

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0065580/COUNTESS DRACULA
Directed by
Distributed by Synapse Films and CAV

Thank you Synapse Films for another gorgeous release of another classic horror film.  The latest Hammer Horror film from Synapse is the great COUNTESS DRACULA starring the beautiful Ingrid Pitt.  Here is the plot synopsis from the Synapse Films website:

The beautiful Ingrid Pitt (The Wicker Man, Where Eagles Dare) stars as Elisabeth Nádasdy, an aging Hungarian Countess who discovers she can reverse her aging by bathing in the blood of young women. While in her youthful state, the Countess falls for the handsome Lt. Imre Toth (Sandor Elès), and impersonates her own daughter to win his affections. Soon, girls in the village go missing… kidnapped and murdered by the Countess and her steward, Julie (Patience Collier) to satiate her horrifying bloodlust. Can Elisabeth live a life of deception with her grotesque lust for blood to stay eternally young, or will her ghoulish secret finally be revealed? Co-starring Nigel Green (Jason and the Argonauts, Zulu).
Considered “one of the more underrated films from the latter days of the Hammer Films dynasty“ (Donald Guarisco, Allmovie.com), Countess Dracula is based on the real-life Hungarian Countess Elizabeth Bathory, a woman accused of torturing and murdering more than 600 girls.

I am huge fan of Hammer Horror films.  They had such a unique vibe to them.  I can't really explain it, but there is a certain style you can see when watching a Hammer film and I love it.  COUNTESS DRACULA was another very enjoyable Hammer film.   The movie was shot well and acted well, and I loved the story.  I have always enjoyed stories and movies about the infamous Elizabeth Bathory, and this is another one I can add to my list of enjoyable films.  Ingrid Pitt did an amazing job as the title character in this film.   She is a joy to watch on screen, and really makes this movie.   Some people will say that this film is slow, and I can see that.  It is slow at some points but even then if you are a fan of Hammer horror films, you will probably enjoy the dialog like I did.   This film won't be for everyone, but if you are a fan of Hammer films, you will definitely want to add this one to your collection!

COUNTESS DRACULA is out now on Blu-ray/DVD combo pack and contains the following special features:

*  Audio commentary with actress Ingrid Pitt, director Peter Sasdy, screenwriter Jeremy Paul and author Jonathan Sothcott
*  Immortal Countess: The Cinematic Life of Ingrid Pitt – Featurette
*  Archival Audio Interview with Ingrid Pitt
*  Still Gallery
*  Theatrical Trailer

A message from the 4H blog administrator, Zombie Hayes....

I apologize for the lack of posts lately, but I am been extremely busy and have not had time to do much posting!  I used to try to keep this a daily blog, making at least one blog post per day, but I have come to the realization that trying to do that with a full time job, and a family is just not possible sometimes.  So, I have lightened up and will just do posts when I can.  I've decided to be in charge of the blog instead of the blog being in charge of me!  Hopefully, I can do at least 2-3 posts a week, but sometimes it may be more, sometimes less.
Thanks for sticking by me and I hope you will continue to be a fan and reader of the 4H blog!

Blu-ray Review: NURSE 3D (2013)

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1913166/NURSE 3D
Directed by
Distributed by Lionsgate Home Entertainment

I finally got around to watching NURSE 3D the other night.  I am so backed up on screeners, I am trying to review them in the order I got them, but someone should have told me how good this movie was so I could have moved it to the top of the pile!!    I had a feeling this movie was going to be good based on the trailer, but I had no clue it would be as good as it was.  Actually, using the word good does not do this film justice.  This film is great.  It's wonderful.  It's amazing!  Ok, enough of that.....here is the plot synopsis from the Lionsgate website:

Paz de la Huerta (HBO’s "Boardwalk Empire") turns up the body heat in this wickedly entertaining story of a fatal attraction. By day, nurse Abby Russell (de la Huerta) lovingly attends to the patients at All Saints Memorial Hospital; by night, Abby prowls nightclubs, luring unfaithful men into dangerous liaisons. After Danni, a young, sensitive nurse, joins the hospital staff, Abby pursues her friendship. But when the friendship turns to obsession, Danni spurns Abby, unleashing Abby’s fury and a rampage of terror.

My one thought that kept going through my head the entire time I was watching this movie was "how has this movie not got more notoriety than it has"?  This film should be being talked about on all the horror websites and forums, but I  rarely see anything about it.  This film was one of the best films I have seen in a while.  I loved every second of it.

First off, lets just get this out of the way right now.  I know most people will say I liked it just because lead actress Paz De La Huerta is naked in this movie...a lot.  She has the most amazing, close to perfect body you will probably ever see.  While that aspect of the film was enjoyable, she could have been covered from head to toe in layers and layers of clothing and I still would have loved this movie.  It was one of the most well written films I have seen in a while.  I haven't seen a good psychological thriller in ages, but this one is among the top.  The story is great with some awesome plot twists and turns.   There is also some pretty good gore for all your gore fans out there (like me!), although most of the gore is pretty crappy CGI.   Even so, that didn't take away from the enjoyment of this film because the gore plays a very minor part in the film as a whole.  The real substance of this film was the fatal attraction style relationship between Abby and Danni.   It's amazing the way Abby manipulates Danni and everyone else around here with her sweet, sexy demeanor. As sweet as she is on the outside, she is equally evil on the inside.

If you have not seen NURSE 3D, do yourself a favor and see it asap!  Everything about this movie was great to me, even the music which I admit I don't normally pay attention to in most films.  If this film has a CD soundtrack, I will be buying it for sure.   Now, if you are trying to decide whether to get the DVD which is in 2D, or the Blu-ray which is in 3D and 2D, I would go ahead and get the Blu-ray since it has both versions.  I will say though, that the 3D aspect of this film is pretty lame from what I could tell.  I have no clue why they even bothered to put this movie in 3D.  The film does not need a gimmick like that.  I watched this film in 2D and was amazed by it.  I only saw 2 or 3 scenes I could tell were made for the 3D aspect and they seemed cheesy and corny when watching it in 2D.   That being said, though, I still LOVED this movie and consider it a must have film for any horror fan.  I know this is one I will be watching again very soon!

NURSE 3D is available now on DVD and Blu-ray and contains the following special features:

*  BAD MEDICINE:  THE MAKING OF NURSE featurette
*  Director Commentary
*  Video Diaries
*  Trailers

Have you seen the GODZILLA 2014 extended trailer yet?

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0831387/?ref_=nv_sr_1
I have to be honest.....I have never been a big GODZILLA fan. I think the old movies are just too cheaply done and too cheesy.  They are classics and nostalgic for sure, but I could just never get into them. I was excited when I heard they were making a remake back in 1998, but then we all saw how that turned out.  So this time when I heard about a new GODZILLA remake, I was not very excited at all.  In fact, I didn't even watch the trailer for the new GODZILLA until tonight!  I have to tell ya, I think this movie looks awesome!   It has the feel of more of a disaster movie than just a monster movie.  The effects look great and thankfully, this Godzilla looks more like the original Godzilla than the lizard/alligator looking creature from the 1998 remake.
If you haven't watched the trailer yet, do yourself a favor and give it a watch.  Let me know what you think.  Are you excited about this new GODZILLA movie?

GODZILLA is set for release next Friday, May 16th.

Evil Dead: The Series coming to YouTube!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6qCDOrTxKMU
Ok, now don't get too excited.  This is a fan made web series, not something made by the original creators of THE EVIL DEAD or anything made by a big studio.  This is a small, low budget series made by fans of the film, for fans of the film.  THE EVIL DEAD: THE SERIES looks to be more based on the recent remake than the original films, but who knows what could be in store.  Right now, the pilot episode is the only one on YouTube.   Give it a watch and let me know what you think.  Better yet, leave a comment on the YouTube video and let the makers of this series know what you think.  If you don't like it, rather than bash it on the comments, leave a comment with some constructive criticism for them.  Let them know what you liked about it and what you didn't.  It sounds like they will be taking the feedback and making it the best series they can!

DVD Review: CAMP DREAD (2014)

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2419354/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1CAMP DREAD
Written & Directed by
Distributed by Image Entertainment

I really like Eric Roberts.  I really, really like Danielle Harris.  I really like slasher flicks.  I really, really like slasher flicks set at summer camps.   CAMP DREAD contains all of the above, yet for some reason, this film just didn't work for me.   Here is the basic plot of the film from the Image Entertainment website:

The “Summer Camp” horror trilogy was one of the most popular movie franchises of the 1980s. However, the decade ended and so did director Julian Barrett’s career. Now Barrett plans to resurrect his gory series via a modern reboot patterned after reality filmmaking. With his former leading lady and an eclectic group of 10 young “contestants,” Barrett returns to the same locale where his old splatter-fests were filmed. When one of the campers is found savagely murdered, they discover there’s more at stake than just fame and fortune. Each of them is in a fight for their lives as they realize summer is over – forever.

CAMP DREAD had some good moments.  The film had some good kill scenes with some good gore.  The main problem is the pacing of the film and the dialog.  The film is very slow in parts, especially the first half of the film.  The second half is better when all the killings start taking place, but the beginning and middle parts seemed to drag on.  The script was good in terms of story line, but some of the dialog was just goofy and some was flat out dumb.   I do have to give props to the ending though, as it had a nice plot twist when it was revealed why all the "kids" were really at the camp.

There is not much else I can really say about this one.  I was really excited for this film, and it was a let down for me.  It was nice to see Felissa Rose  back in a summer camp slasher flick for old time's sake, though!  Also, while Danielle Harris is very prominent on the DVD cover, she makes a cameo appearance with a total of about 2- 3 minutes of screen time  (that is my estimation, anyway).  One of my pet peeves is when movies bill a certain actor or actress as a main actor, then you find out they are only in the film briefly.

Well, as I always say, this is just my opinion of the film.  Hopefully you all will like it better.  Watch it if you get the chance and let me know what you think.  If you have already seen CAMP DREAD, leave a comment below and let me know what you thought of it.

CAMP DREAD is available now on DVD.

The first trailer for Eli Roth's upcoming cannibal film, THE GREEN INFERNO, is here!!

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2403021/?ref_=nm_flmg_dr_2

I can't remember the last time I was so excited about an upcoming film.   I heard about Eli Roth's upcoming film THE GREEN INFERNO awhile back and have been anxiously awaiting a trailer.  Well, the wait is over.  We finally have a short teaser trailer, which while not really showing much at all, shows us everything we need to know about this film.  Here is the basic plot of the film:

A group of student activists travel from New York City to the Amazon to save a dying tribe. Unfortunately, they crash in the jungle and are taken hostage by the very natives they protected.

Take a look at the trailer and let me know what you think.  Hopefully we will have a full trailer soon that will show us more of the good stuff.  Being such a fan of CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST, I am super excited about this film!

Check out the first trailer for Billy "Bloody Bill" Pon's upcoming film, CIRCUS OF THE DEAD!

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2782232/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1  I have been looking forward to this film for a long time!  Some of you might remember me mentioning CIRCUS OF THE DEAD back when I did my review of Billy Pon's short film, DOLL BOY  (see review here).  Doll Boy is a character that is in the full length feature, CIRCUS OF THE DEAD.   Billy Pon is a fairly new name among horror fans, but soon he will be mentioned among the greats, in my opinion.  You can tell "Bloody Bill" is a fan of the horror genre, and knows what us horror fans want to see in a horror film.  I love the fact that he embraces the old grindhouse style of horror film.
I have been eager to see a trailer for this film for a while now, and now we finally have our chance to see one!  Fangoria.com has the exclusive first look at the trailer for CIRCUS OF THE DEAD!

Here is the basic plot synopsis taken from the fangoria.com article:

Family man Don’s visit to an old, rundown big top circus and chance encounter with a nihilistic group of clowns leaves him fighting for his life and the lives of those he loves. As Don becomes drawn deeper into lead clown Papa Corn’s games, he comes closer to the edge of reason and sanity. Armed with guns, knives and a ’68 Camaro, the clowns lead Don on an all-night crime spree through oil-soaked West Texas. Papa Corn’s wild ride brings blood, gore and mayhem to all he encounters.

Check out the trailer and let me know what you think!  CIRCUS OF THE DEAD will have it's world premiere at this years Texas Frightmare Weekend, May 2-4!

Check out the "looks so bad, it's good" trailer for POSEIDON REX!

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2690160/?ref_=nv_sr_1  If you are a fan of the cheesy cross-breed creature features on the SyFy network, you are going to love this gem.  It's called POSEIDON REX and it looks amazing...it a bad, but good way.  The film is about a Tyrannosaurus Rex that lives in the ocean.  Yep, you read that correctly.  Here is the plot from it's amazon.com page:

A small, secluded island off the coast of Belize suddenly finds itself terrorized by a deadly predator from the planet's distant past, when deep sea divers accidentally awaken an ancient evil. Jackson Slate and his team of underwater cave explorers unearth much more than long-lost Mayan treasure while plumbing the depths of a world famous blue hole. They disturb a creature that's been hibernating for over 60,000 years - a rampaging behemoth of death and destruction not only at sea but also on land.

POSEIDON REX will be released onto DVD May 13th of this year.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3627704/?ref_=nv_sr_5  I know this is old news now, but I hadn't posted anything on this yet, so figure I should before I completely forget about it!   Fans of the PHANTASM films will be excited to hear that a fifth installment has been made!  It's called PHANTASM V:  RAVAGER, and yes, Angus Scrimm is back playing The Tall Man!  There are no plot details yet, but in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, writer  did mention that part of the film would take place on "The Tall Man's home world."

Check out the HOUSE OF MANSON trailer!

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3100678/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1  One of the most interesting and intriguing stories I have ever known about is the story of Charles Manson.  What he and his followers did was something that if you saw in a movie first, you could never believe it could really happen, but it did.  There have been numerous films about the Manson murders, and a teaser trailer for the newest one has been released!  The film is called HOUSE OF MANSON!  Here is some info about the film from the film's official press release:

House of Manson chronicles Charles Manson's life from his childhood up until his arrest following the raid on Barker Ranch months after the infamous Tate/LaBianca murders that sent a shockwave not just through Los Angeles, but through the entire world.

The film was written and directed by Brandon Slagle, who was recently deemed the "go-to-gore-guy" by The Hollywood Reporter during their coverage of the European Film Market. While not a "gory" film, House of Manson is poised to take a more intense approach to the subject matter than previous film and TV iterations have. The film was produced by Britt Griffith, (co-star of Syfy's "Ghost Hunters"), who also produced Slagle's previous directorial effort, the dark creature feature Dead Sea, set for retail release in the United States and Canada in May.

Actor Ryan Kiser (Truth or Dare) stars as Charles Manson, having previously played the role in the acclaimed short film "Lie." Rounding out the cast is Reid Warner (Oren Peli's Area 51) as Tex Watson, Chriss Anglin (Call of Duty: Black Ops) as Ronald Hughes, Devanny Pinn (The Black Dahlia Haunting) as Susan Atkins, Serena Lorien as Patricia Krenwinkel, Erin Marie Hogan (Paranormal Entity) as Linda Kasabian, Suzi Lorraine (Music and Lyrics) as Sharon Tate, and Tristan Risk (American Mary) as Abigail Folger as well as Julie Rose, Adrian Quihuis, Mel Turner ("Deadliest Warrior"), Jason McNeil, Ryan Cleary, Keith Kraft (Beowulf), Trish Cook (Dark Tide), Tawny Amber Young, Max Wasa, Darius Devontaye Green, and many more.

Charles Manson has been a hot topic as of late due to the recent parole of family member Bruce Davis as well two upcoming television series - one from Rob Zombie and Bret Easton Ellis and the other from NBC, starring David Duchovney. Additionally, this year marks the 45th Anniversary of the Tate and LaBianca murders.

House of Manson will debut later this year.

Check out the teaser trailer and let me know what you think! I think actor Ryan Kiser's portrayal of Charles Manson looks super intense!

DVD Review: MEMORY OF THE DEAD

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1826720/MEMORY OF THE DEAD
Directed by
Distributed by Artsploitation Films

I have said it before and I will say it again...I LOVE foreign horror films!  There are so many great horror movies being made all over the world, you owe it to yourself to check out some of these great foreign films!  I just watched a film from Argentina called MEMORY OF THE DEAD.  This was a visually stunning film that was heavily influenced by some of the top names in horror.   Here is the basic plot synopsis from the Artsploitation website:

A stylish supernatural shocker that has been a hit at film festivals around the world. Argentina’s Memory of the Dead boasts some terrifying FX setpieces bathed in a candy-colored visual palette that makes Mario Bava’s gothic classics look monochromatic by comparison. Following the sudden death of her husband, Alicia assembles all his friends at a vast country manor for a reading of his final letter. But Alicia also has other plans in mind – helping her husband return from the grave with a spell that will put all of the gathered guests in mortal danger. Scary, hysterical and packed with mind-boggling visuals, Memory of the Dead is the cinematic equivalent of a funhouse ride.

I love the reference comparing this film to a funhouse ride.  That is spot on as there is something different going on with each person in the house...a different surprise around every corner!  There are some crazy death sequences in this film, and just some crazy visuals all throughout the film.   One thing I noticed from the beginning was the excellent camera work.  There are some very cool shots throughout the film, great camera angles and such.

It's interesting that this film was compared to a Mario Bava film in the plot synopsis.  I can totally see that, but I can also see influences from Dario Argento  (use of color),  and most of all, Sam Raimi and the EVIL DEAD films.  There are a few scenes taken directly from the EVIL DEAD films, a nice homage for sure!

Fans of gore will be thrilled by this film...there are some crazy gore effects in this film, some that truly made me cringe, and I don't get bothered by too much!

I highly suggest you check out MEMORY OF THE DEAD.  The DVD is available now from Artsploitation Films.

DVD Review: BORDELLO DEATH TALES

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1312230/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1BORDELLO DEATH TALES
Directed by James Eaves , Pat Higgins, and Alan Ronald
Distributed by Chemical Burn Entertainment

I love horror anthology movies.  In horror anthologies, you have multiple mini movies within the movie, so if one story isn't interesting you, there is something completely different coming up soon.  Seems like with most anthologies, I find there is at least one story that is not so good.  That was not the case for me with BORDELLO DEATH TALES.  The film is comprised of 3 short films, all centered around the same brothel.  The films are quite different in styles which makes for a fun, enjoyable film.   Here is the plot synopsis from the Chemical Burn Entertainment website:

Death, Booze, Sex, Ghoulish Grindhouse Murders Galore and more in this terrifying anthology film brouht to you by three of the most fiercely original, independent directors, working in horror today. “Bordello Death Tales” is an ambitious and impressive recreation of the golden age of Amicus with their trademark portmanteau horror anthologies. Jim Eaves (“The Witches Hammer,” “Bane”), Pat Higgins (“KillerKiller,” “Hellbride,” “TrashHouse”) and Alan Ronald (“Jesus vs the Messiah”) bring you three dark tales from behind the closed bedroom doors of Madame Raven's bordel

The three stories in this anthology are as follows:

THE RIPPER:  This story is about a serial killer that targets prostitutes.  He lures them to his home and tortures them in his garage, but the last one he takes home is not going out without a fight.  This was probably my favorite of the three stories, mainly because I'm a sucker for gore and this film had tons of it.

STITCHGIRL:  This story is about a man looking for the perfect girl for his time at the bordello. If the madame of the bordello doesn't have just what the men order, then she will make the perfect girl for him!   This was a very good film, shot mostly in black and white, this one is very atmospheric and cool visually.  Stitchgirl is made from the best parts of several prostitutes, making her like a modern day Frankenstein's monster.  She actually resembles Sally from THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS and at one point the film looks awfully like a Tim Burton film.  If the director is a Tim Burton fan and was trying to pay respect to him, then he hit a home run with this one.  My sole complaint is a weird music video featuring Stitchgirl in the middle of this segment.  It seemed out of place and messed with the flow of the film. This didn't cause me to not enjoy the film though, but seemed worth mentioning.

VICE DAY:  I guess this one was my least favorite of the three stories, although I still enjoyed it.  This one is about a web cam session gone wrong.   A prominent politician has a web cam session with a local prostitute on what he calls, vice day.  It's a day celebrating a game he has played each of the last few years where he puts a bullet in a pistol, spins the barrel, puts the gun against his head and pulls the trigger.  Each year he adds a bullet, so every year his chances of survival get slimmer.   Will the prostitute on the other end of the web cam chat witness his final game?

BORDELLO DEATH TALES is available now from Chemical Burn Entertainment.

Book Review: HIDDEN HORROR: A CELEBRATION OF 101 UNDERRATED AND OVERLOOKED FRIGHT FLICKS

http://www.kitleyskrypt.com/hiddenhorror.htmHIDDEN HORROR:  A CELEBRATION OF 101 UNDERRATED AND OVERLOOKED FRIGHT FLICKS
Edited by Aaron Christensen
Published by Kitley's Krypt

I'll be honest, I don't read much these days.  I just don't seem to find the time with a full time job and a family, to sit down and read most books.    Also, I am a bit of a slow reader, and I have an awful memory, so if I am reading a book and I go a few days without reading, I tend to forget what was going on and have to go back and re-read chapters.   I tell you this to explain why I love books like HIDDEN HORROR from Dr. AC!   I love books about movies and reference books like this are perfect for me.  If you don't have time to sit and watch a movie, it is a lot of fun to be able to take a few minutes and read about it! And each essay is about a different movie, and only 2-3 pages long on average, so you can read just a few minutes if that is all you have time for.

Now, a lot of reference books are like this, but you tend to start reading about the same mainstream or cult status films when you read a horror movie reference book.  What this book does differently is focus on those films that normally wouldn't get much, if any, write up in any movie reference book. That is one of many things that sets this book apart from others like it.  Another is that each essay was written by a different author, so if you don't like the style one of the essays is written in, well the next one will be completely different since it will be by a brand new author!  I had a good time reading all the different authors and was excited to see that I knew a couple of them from my blogger circle of friends!  I know B.J. Colangelo from the "Day of the Woman" Blog who wrote an essay on the film, I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE  (a movie I don't think is overlooked, but definitely underrated) and John Squires from the "Freddy In Space" Facebook page/blog who did a great article on the film, PSYCHO II.

One of the things that was so much fun about this book was finding some horror films that I had never heard of before, and reading about those I might have heard of but had never seen.  There were only a handful of films I had never heard of, but there were quite a few I have to admit I have never seen.  In fact, I went through and counted which ones I had seen and I had only seen 32 of the 101 films reviewed in this book!!  And I consider myself a horror fan!!  Shame on me, I obviously have some work to do!

This is one of the best movie reference books out there right now in my opinion.  Any and all horror fans need a copy of HIDDEN HORROR on their bookshelf for sure.   This is very nicely put together book.  The book is 313 pages and includes tons of pictures from the films being reviewed.  The price tag is awesome too, costing just $15!  That is bargain for such a great book that is full of great movie info!
