DVD Review: KILLING MR. RIGHT (2014)

KILLING MR. RIGHT
Written & Directed by Kerry Beyer
Produced by Kerosene Films

  It's hard to believe it's been 5 years since I reviewed a film from director Kerry Beyer.  That film was called SPIRIT CAMP and was one of the best independent horror films I have seen in a long time.  You can read my review of SPIRIT CAMP here.  I mentioned in that review that I looked forward to seeing future projects from this amazing filmmaker.  Well, here we are 5 years later and Kerry Beyer's newest film, KILLING MR. RIGHT, is now available for our viewing pleasure!  Needless to say, Beyer does not disappoint in his latest film.   This film is more of a crime/revenge flick than true horror film, but horror fans will be glad to know that this film is still full of carnage and gore!  Before I go any further, here is the basic plot of the film from the Kerosene Films website:

Convinced her roommate’s new fiancé is the man who abducted and raped her, a young law student, suffering from post traumatic stress disorder, takes justice into her own hands as she exacts revenge… but does she have the right man? Elizabeth Jackson and Kerry Beyer star in this disturbing revenge thriller that pushes the limits of sadism, giving a whole new meaning to the phrase “cruel and unusual punishment.”

  KILLING MR. RIGHT is an excellent film that will entertain you on many levels.  The film is a great crime/revenge flick, but as stated above, the film delivers in terms of blood and gore as well, including guy getting disemboweled and a woman getting her eyeball plucked out of her head with a meat hook!   Yuck!  I won't say anymore, as I don't want to give too much away, but this is a film you will definitely want to check out.   The film has some laugh out loud dialog as well, to lighten the mood a bit on what is otherwise a very dark, serious film.   The acting is very good as well, with every member of the cast turning in a great performance.

   The press release says that KILLING MR. RIGHT is "a psychological horror film reminiscent of I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE meets AMERICAN PSYCHO".  This is a very good comparison and if you are a fan of those films, I think you will definitely enjoy this film.   KILLING MR. RIGHT is available now through various platforms including DVD and VOD.   The DVD contains the following special features:

*  Director Commentary
*  Behind the Scenes
*  Special FX Makeup Tutorial
*  Lord Von Black Music Video

Check out the trailer for the upcoming film, KILLING MR. RIGHT

  A few years ago, I reviewed a fun slasher film from Kerosense Films called SPIRIT CAMP.  I was a huge fan of this film and of director Kerry Beyer . Well, Mr. Beyer is back with a brand new film, this time he is focusing on the revenge/thriller genre.  The film is called KILLING MR. RIGHT and the trailer is finally out for our viewing pleasure!
   Here is the plot of the film from the Kerosene Films website:

Convinced her roommate’s new fiancé is the man who abducted and raped her, a young law student, suffering from post traumatic stress disorder, takes justice into her own hands as she exacts revenge… but does she have the right man? Elizabeth Jackson and Kerry Beyer star in this disturbing revenge thriller that pushes the limits of sadism, giving a whole new meaning to the phrase “cruel and unusual punishment.”

  I have to admit, I was hoping for more straight horror from Mr. Beyer's next film, but after watching this trailer, I could not be more excited for this film!  I think there will be plenty of suspense and terror for us horror fans!

  KILLING MR. RIGHT will have it's World Premiere Sneak Peak at SplatterFest on 10/2 at Alamo Drafthouse Mason Park in Houston.   If you are attending that event, you can pre-order the DVD and pick it up there by clicking HERE.   For those of us that can't attend that event, DVD sales will be available at a later date.

Happy Super Bowl Sunday and the lack of sports related horror films...

 Super Bowl Sunday is finally here!  This is one of the few nights a year I won't be watching a horror related TV show or movie on the big screen!  Being the biggest football game of the year, it made me start wondering if there were any sports related horror movies out there.  I honestly couldn't come up with any off the top of my head.
  With as many horror movies as there are, it seems like there is bound to be a sports related one, right?  Actually, as I am writing this, one just popped into my head!  I reviewed a baseball themed movie a while back called DEADBALL.  You can see that review here.  This same director also did another baseball themed film called BATTLEFIELD BASEBALL.  So, there have been a couple of Japanese baseball related horror films, but there has go to be more, right?
  I googled sports related horror movies and came up with this cool list from Sportsgrid.com.  It is a list of the Top 8 Sports Related Death scenes in film.  Some of these are from horror films, some are from other, non horror films.

  It seems as though there just aren't too many sports related horror films.   The only other one I can think of is Kerry Beyer's SPIRT CAMP, which has to do with a cheerleading squad, which is somewhat sports related.

  On a final note, I did find this movie while searching on the Upcoming Horror Movies website.  It's a movie called PLAY DEAD about a zombie football team!   Here is the actual plot description from the UHM website:
Set in a small football-obsessed town, where after a winning high school football team is murdered by a rival team, the coach looks to a local witch to bring the dead players back to life in hopes of making it in time for the big game.

Ha!  That sounds like a lot of fun.  PLAY DEAD is listed as "In Development", so it might not be out for a while.

Can you think of any more sports related horror movies?  Especially any that focus on the main sports of Football, Basketball, or Baseball?   Leave a comment below and let us know!

Well, enjoy the Super Bowl tonight and GO BRONCOS!!  :-)

Check out the newest film from Kerosene Films, KILLING MR. RIGHT

  I just got a press release from Kerosene Films about their latest film titled, KILLING MR. RIGHT.  You might remember Kerosene Films as the production company behind the indy splatter classic, SPIRIT CAMP.   I did a review of that film a couple of years ago...you can see that review here.

  This latest film is a psychological thriller and stars Kerry Beyer, Brittney Karbowski, and introduces Elizabeth Jackson.  The film begins production in Houston, Texas on July 17th of this year.

  According to the press release, the film is a twisted thriller reminiscent of AMERICAN PSYCHO and FATAL ATTRACTION.  Here is what Mr. Beyer has to say about this new film:

 "This film is disturbing... it gets under your skin and you don't know who you can trust,". "It takes sadistic to a whole new level, and you'll question how well you know your significant other."

    Sounds like a pretty cool project...I am looking forward to this one for sure! The film is slated for a DVD release sometime in 2014

  I will pass on any news/info I hear about the film, but you can also keep up to date by checking out the Kerosene Films website, www.kerosenefilms.com

Check out the info on director Kerry Beyer's newest feature film, CODE OF EVIL!!

Geektyrant.com has posted some great new info about director Kerry Beyer's latest film called, CODE OF EVIL.   Kerry Beyer is the mastermind behind the awesome horror film, SPIRIT CAMP, which I reviewed last year (click here to see that review).  I have been eagerly awaiting news on what Mr. Beyer's next film was going to be, and now we know!   CODE OF EVIL is described as follows, taken from the film's official website:

An intergalactic Sci-Fi/Horror adventure of epic proportions. Written and directed by award winning filmmaker Kerry Beyer (Spirit Camp), Code of Evil embodies a classic tale of good vs. evil as a band of misfits struggle to survive the terrors of a hostile alien world - while holding the fate of mankind in their hands.

Check out the teaser trailer by clicking the link below.  The film looks more Sci-fi than horror, so it will be cool to see what Beyer does with the Sci-fi genre, although I'm sure there will still be plenty of good stuff in it for us horror fans!  This film is in pre-production now, so the teaser trailer is a just a sample of what the final movie will actually look like. Keep an eye on the film's official website and Facebook pages for the latest news and info!
