Check out the trailer for Albert Pyun's newest film, BULLETFACE

A while back I made a post about Albert Pyun's newest film BULLETFACE. (CLICK HERE to see the original post). Now, a full trailer has been released, and I have to say, this looks like a it is going to be a lot of fun!!
Here is the Synopsis from the Quite Earth website:

The story is set along the Mexico/California Border, principally in Imperial Beach, CA. It concerns a female DEA agent, Dara Maren, who, in protecting her petty criminal younger brother, gets herself arrested and imprisoned in a nightmarish penal colony outside Tijuana. While she’s in prison, Dara’s brother is murdered by a drug lord who’s creating a new DNA-altering drug made from human spinal fluid… tapped from the living.Hundreds of dead bodies are turning up along the Border, and the drug addicts become something less than human. The drug is so addictive that even law enforcement and government officials are on the stuff. A rogue FBI agent bribes the prison officials to let Dara out to avenge her brother’s murder as well as bring down the drug lord in ways the Feds cannot. When Dara comes out of prison, she is not the same person who went in. The catch? She only gets a 60-hour get-out-of-jail card and must return to the prison to serve out her 20-year sentence, or the FBI agent, who got her out, must take her place.

BULLETFACE is being released on an amazing 5-disc set! The set includes the following:

-Bulletface: Feature Film in widescreen and 5.1 soundtrack DVD
-Bulletface: Special Director's Commentary Feature Film
-Bulletface Original Music Soundtrack + Songs by Elyzium CD
-Left for Dead: Inferno Version Feature Film DVD
-Left for Dead Original Music Soundtrack CD.

This set is already a steal at the regular price of $29.99, but if you order through the
Quiet Earth website before March 5th, you can get your own copy of BULLETFACE for
50% off!! That is not a typo! HALF PRICE! CLICK HERE to order now!

DVD Review: DEMONIC TOYS 2

I just finished the great film, DEMONIC TOYS 2. This is the latest film from the great folks at FULL MOON ENTERTAINMENT. That is the same company that brought you some other great "killer puppet" films, such as the PUPPET MASTER films, DOLLMAN, BLOOD DOLLS, SKULL HEADS, GINGERBREAD MAN 1&2, and of course, the original DEMONIC TOYS. The film was written and directed by William Butler.
Here is the plot synopsis from the Full Moon website:

Dr. Lorca from Hideous! (Michael Citrini) is back and is continuing to collect strange oddities, along with the help of Caitlin (Alli Kinzel) and her boyfriend David (Lane Compton). Along the way, they collect the mysterious pieces of the last Demonic Toys and they continue their search at a mysterious castle in Italy, where there have been rumors of a mysterious, ancient puppet alive and walking around, which is under the control of a mysterious demon, who takes on the human form of a little woman named Lilith (Selene Luna). When not looking, the puppet brings the Demonic Toys back to life, and now... blood, terror and death counts will rise again.

I have to admit, I have never seen the original DEMONIC TOYS. I was worried at first, but then I soon realized this would be an enjoyable film even if you have never seen the first one. I LOVE these types of "killer puppet" movies. FULL MOON ENTERTAINMENT is known for producing the best of this genre, as they have proved time and time again (the PUPPET MASTER series being my personal favorite), and they have added another entry into their filmography that they can certainly be proud of! The acting is overall pretty good..some of it is a little cheesy, which should be expected (and encouraged!) for this type of film. Veteran TV actor Leslie Jordan has a small part of the film which is always a treat! The gorgeous Alli Kinzel does a great job, and is definitely an actress to keep an eye on in the future.
The story is a lot of fun, and the killer toys themselves are a blast to watch on screen. Pay close attention to their chatter amongst each other..everything they say is funny and adds a nice element of dark comedy to the film. The gore effects are mixed. The few that are done with practical make-up effects and real fake blood (oxymoron alert!) are great, but there is a weakness in the few gore effects that are done with CGI. Computer generated spewing blood just doesn't have the same realistic effect as using real fake blood. Other than that, I thoroughly enjoyed this latest feature from FULL MOON ENTERTAINMENT and I recommend it if you are a fan of the killer dolls and toys film genre.

It has begun....

I hate to break this to you, but the Zombie Apocalypse might have begun. I hope you are ready. Why do I say this? Because apparently a dead 45 year old Colombian woman came back to life at a Funeral Home in Cali, Columbia!
According to the article, "When they were going to apply formaldehyde, the patient began to breathe again and make movements".
We all knew it wasn't a matter of if, but when the Zombie Apocalypse would begin.....so this shouldn't be too shocking to anyone. Good Luck.

DVD Review: WATCHUSDIE.COM

WATCHUSDIE.COM is from Pathfinder Pictures and was written by Keith W. Strandberg and directed by Ryan Woo. It is the story of an internet voyeur site gone bad. Here is the full summary from imdb.com:

Set in a voyeur site called WatchUsDorm, the movie watches the lives (and deaths) of the eight women living in the house. These girls are live, 24 hours a day, seven days a week--until they begin to die. The first "live" Internet death occurs around midnight, when Pia takes a gainer down the main stairs of the WatchUsDorm mansion. Was it an accident, or a deliberate murder? No one knows, but more people than ever are watching, and the next day, T-shirts are being sold memorializing Pia's life and death. Soon, another girl dies. This time, its Sara in the hot tub. A banner remembering Pia and Sara appears on the site. The members are devastated, but the show must go on. Life continues as normal, or as normal as it can be when 45 cameras are watching your every move. Another resident turns up missing, and then another dies in the shower, her head smashed to pieces against the tiles of the shower stall. A killer is on the loose at WatchUsDorm.com, and suddenly the name of the site switches to WatchUsDie.com. Who do you call? What do you do? You don't know where the house is, or even if what you are watching is real, or a new millennium version of "War of the Worlds."

This is a great Thriller and I have to give the filmmakers credit, as who I thought was going to end up being the killer was not at all who it turned out to be. The film has many instances of pure helplessness, as people are watching the girls get killed but can't do anything about it, due to the animosity of the house and it's location. At one point, after witnessing one of the murders, a woman calls the police but they can't do anything about it because the caller has no information about who the girl is, or the address of the house. She doesn't even know the city or state the house is in. It is also disturbing when you watch the voyeurs who are logged onto the website getting enjoyment out of the killings and trying to guess who the killer is, thinking that the whole thing is a game or publicity stunt. The film also has a clever twist at the end that, while implausible as it seems, makes for a fun ending.
One of the scariest things about this film is that this, or something similar, is something that could actually happen. There are plenty of real voyeur sites on the internet, with cameras running all the time, and it is just a matter of time before something bad happens in front of one of the these cameras.

DVD Review: THE MUMMY'S KISS: 2ND DYNASTY

I recently had the pleasure of watching the Frontline Entertainment feature, THE MUMMY'S KISS: 2ND DYNASTY. The film is written and directed by Donald F. Glut a director that many people might not recognize the name of, but definitely should! Mr. Glut has many titles under his belt, including BLOOD SCARAB, COUNTESS DRACULA'S ORGY OF BLOOD, and DINOSAUR VALLEY GIRLS just to name a few. Now, by the titles of these films, it is pretty obvious that we are not dealing with huge Hollywood produced films here. These are very small productions on very limited budgets. The difference between Mr. Glut's low budget films and other low budget films, though, is that they don't look low budget. THE MUMMY'S KISS: 2ND DYNASTY is a beautifully shot film with some great makeup/special effects. The mummy itself looks great and very gross...just like a 3000 year old mummy should! Here is the basic plot from Frontline Entertainments official website:

The MUMMY of evil Egyptian sorceress Hor-Shep-Sut is unveiled at a museum exhibit opening. PROFESSOR BRAMWELL, an Egyptologist, relates the legend of how this Mummy allegedly once came back to life. Among the guests is ELYSE DARCY, a lovely reporter covering the opening for a tabloid newspaper, as well as several lovely young women. In charge of the exhibit is DR. ZITA FURNEAUX, a once-beautiful aging woman and closet lesbian, who has let her professional career interfere with her love life. Realizing what she has missed in life, Zita discovers some hieroglyphics through which she is able to contact the Egyptian goddess Nephthys in the Egyptian Afterworld. Zita vows to be loyal to Nephthys in exchange for the secret of restoring her lost youth. Nephthys reveals that Zita can be young again through the “Mummy’s Kiss”…by which she will drain off the “kas” (spiritual twins) of beautiful young women. Performing the required ritual, Zita brings the Mummy back to life and dispatches the Mummy to bring back young female victims – including some of the women she had spotted at the museum’s exhibit opening. Each time she first makes love to the Mummy’s captive…then climaxes their lovemaking with the “ka”-draining kiss, transforming them into zombie-like Egyptian handmaidens. There’s a drawback, however. Zita’s new youth effect is not lasting…and when she continues to revert back, she looks older than her original age. There must be a way, she says, to stay young forever…even to become like an immortal goddess herself. Angered by Zita’s misuse of her powers and attempt to become goddess-like, Nephthys takes control of the Mummy and turns it against Zita. In the Mummy’s clutches, Zita reverts back to a much older woman…then a becomes withering corpse…and finally a skeleton that explodes into dust. Nephthys restores the handmaidens’ “kas,” returns the Mummy to its death state, and then returns to the Afterworld. In the last scene, the Mummy is dead is dead forever. Or is she…?

This was a very fun movie to watch. The acting was good for the most part, and the story was a lot of fun. The actresses in the film are some of the most beautiful you will see in any film. Please be warned though, the film does contain a lot of sexual situations and nudity. In fact, if I had to find any faults with the film, it might have been that it contains a little too much nudity for a horror film, something I never thought I would say! While obviously shot quick and on a cheap budget, the film did something that some big budget Hollywood films don't do, and that is it kept me entertained the full running time. And really, that is all a good movie is supposed to do. This movie proves it doesn't take a multimillion budget to make a good movie.

I look forward to checking out more films of Mr. Glut's and will bring you more reviews of his films in the future.

Check out the upcoming zombie novel: MARRIED WITH ZOMBIES

It seems like anytime I read a book these days, it always has something to do with Zombies. Well, I can add another book to my reading list! ORBIT BOOKS just announced that they are publishing a new book titled: MARRIED WITH ZOMBIES by Jesse Petersen. I had first read about this on my buddy Scott Baker's Blog. This sounds like it could be a lot of fun! Here is the basic premise from the Orbit Books website:

The book is about two unlikely heroes — a couple on the verge of divorce. On their way to marriage counseling, they notice a few odd things: a missing guard, a lack of cars on the freeway, and their counselor ripping out the throat of her previous client.
Now it’s up to David and Sarah to work together, save their marriage — and survive in the middle of a zombie apocalypse.

DVD Review: EVIL THINGS

I recently watched a film titled EVIL THINGS. This is another entry into the "found footage" type of film, where we are supposed to be watching footage shot by the characters themselves, that is found after they go missing. Other examples being THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT and the more recent PARANORMAL ACTIVITY.
Folks, this film is what THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT and PARANORMAL ACTIVITY wanted to be! It has been a long time since I have enjoyed a film this much. Before I go any further, here is the basic plot from imdb.com:

It's Miriam's 21st Birthday. As a birthday gift, Miriam's aunt Gail has decided to lend Miriam her beautiful country house for an entire weekend. Aunt Gail's country house is amazing. It's a four bedroom house surrounded by breathtaking mountains and miles and miles of woods. Miriam invites her young college friends Cassy, Mark, Tanya and Leo to join her at the country house for what looks to be the most amazing weekend ever. Miriam, Cassy and Tanya bring the food. Mark brings the beer and Leo, the aspiring filmmaker, brings his new video camera. Leo hopes to produce a short movie by documenting every amazing moment of this weekend getaway. Unfortunately, what Leo ends up capturing on camera is not a weekend of peace and tranquility, but a nightmarish descent into pure terror.

It seems to be a very low budget film, with mostly first time actors, which is probably a good thing. The people in this film did not seem like actors at all. In fact, the acting is so good in this film that it didn't seem like they were acting. You actually believe that you are just watching a real group of friends. In fact, if you told me that these actors are really good friends and hang out with each other every weekend, I would definitely believe it, because that is what came across on screen. The film was directed by first time director Dominic Perez. It is not very often that a director hits a "home run" his first time up to bat, but that is exactly what Mr. Perez has done with this film. The film starts off slowly, just letting you get to know all the characters. While driving to their weekend house, they are terrorized on the road by someone in a van. They continue to see this van at various points along their trip and eventually meet up with the driver of this van in a more direct way at the climax of the film. This is a must see for any fans of Horror/suspense movies. I can't say enough good things about this film.

DVD Review: IN SEARCH OF LOVECRAFT

Recently I watched the film, IN SEARCH OF LOVECRAFT. The film was written and directed by David J. Hohl. Before I tell you my thoughts on it, let me share with you the plot from amazon.com:

While shooting a Halloween news story on horror writer H.P. Lovecraft, reporter Rebecca Marsh (Renee Sweet) discovers that the fiction Lovecraft wrote is actually true; the creatures and cults described in his writings really exist. She enlists the help of her cameraman, an occult expert, and Keja (Playboy Model Rachael Robbins), a sexy witch who is expert on the Lovecraft mythos. Only together may they survive the vicious attacks of the cult's creatures.

First off, let me say this was a good movie. Definitely worth checking out. What starts out as just a "filler" story about H.P. Lovecraft for Rebecca, becomes a much more involved story and gets here involved in the Lovecraft Mythos more than she ever thought she would be. The movie has some great scenes, good scares, and some great makeup effects. The "Dark Man" that Rebecca would see from time to time was very creepy and very well done. I couldn't do a fair review, though, without pointing out places of improvement which would be the acting. Some of it is downright bad. Some of it is good, and then some of it is so bad its good! I have a new favorite character actor now in Larry Laverty! His over the top performance as the paranoid Prof. Sutton had me rolling. He was very enjoyable. For a low budget independent feature, it is pretty impressive. It looks like a much bigger production than it probably was. As director Hohl's first feature, it is a great achievement and I look forward to seeing more work of his in the future!

* HELLHOUNDS
* SCREAM (1981)

Nothing super exciting this week, other than the Blaxsploitation spoof, BLACK DYNAMITE. Check out the trailer if you haven't seen it yet. It is a great throwback/spoof/parody of the Blaxsploitation films of the 70's such as SHAFT, SUPERFLY, THE MACK, COFFY, DOLEMITE, FOXY BROWN, etc. The only Horror related DVD I would suggest would be CABIN FEVER 2..if you were a fan of the first film. DVD Review: MEET THE FEEBLES (1989)

If you haven't met the Feebles yet, don't bother! MEET THE FEEBLES is director Peter Jacksons 2nd feature film, his follow-up to BAD TASTE. I had never seen this movie before, which might be the reason I didn't like it. Maybe if I saw it when it first came out over (20 years ago!), I might have enjoyed it more. Before we go any farther, here is the basic plot from imdb.com:

Heidi, the star of the "Meet The Feebles Variety Hour" discovers her lover Bletch, The Walrus, is cheating on her, and with all the world waiting for the show the assorted co-stars must contend with their own problems. These include drug addiction, extortion, robbery, disease, Drug dealing, and even murder. While this is happening the love between two of the stars is threatened by the devious Trevor the Rat, who wishes to exploit the young starlet for use in his porno movie business.

I had heard many things through the years about this film, from the violence, drug use, and even puppet sex, but nothing was really that shocking in this film at all. The thought of puppets doing this hanous acts might have been shocking 20 years ago, but today there is nothing fresh or new about it. After seeing shows such as WONDER SHOWZEN, CRANK YANKERS, and TEAM AMERICA: WORLD POLICE, we have all seen worse behaviour from puppets than Peter Jackson's Feebles could ever show us. So, if you take away the shock factor (which I expect is the only thing that really made this movie so popular and worth talking about when it came out), then you are a left with nothing more than a movie that is not shocking, not funny, and just not good. I know some people might disagree with me, but I bet those that really like this film are those that saw it years ago...back when they could be shocked by the behavior of these puppets, therefore giving them something to like about the film. Also, being from Peter Jackson, I expected a more Horror aspect to the film, which as it turned out was actually very minimal.

DVD Review: MURDER COLLECTION V. 1

I have heard about a film called MURDER COLLECTION V. 1 for some time now. It is from Toe Tag Pictures and the the great director Fred Vogel, who's previous work includes the AUGUST UNDERGROUND series. I had previously read about this film in an issue of Rue Morgue magazine. In fact, Rue Morgue awarded MURDER COLLECTION V. 1 the "Best Gore Scene" of 2009, thanks to the wonderful gore effects of special effects supervisor Jerami Cruise. I finally got a chance to see the film, and I am happy to report it is definitely worth it's hype. This is a brutal film and definitely one worth checking out. Here is the basic plot:

Murder Collection: Volume 1, revives an early 1990’s Internet clip show, Murder, which was notorious for streaming videos of actual killings. After gaining popularity, the infamous show was discovered by authorities and shut down forcing the host, Balan, into obscurity. Over more than a decade in the shadows, the obsessed host continued to search for scenes of brutality that provoke a maelstrom of emotion. Balan has recently emerged from the darkness and is eager to show you his collection.

This is not a "fun" horror movie. There is nothing campy here...no dark humor or anything remotely funny. Even though the movie has a "plot", it is really nothing more than death scene after death scene with your host Balan talking a little between each one. The scenes in this film are remarkably realistic. From the scene of a terrorist beheading to the scene that won the "Best Gore Scene" award, a scene of what looks to be a real autopsy. Remember, nothing is real here, it is all just special effects for a movie, but you do have to keep telling yourself that sometimes. While this is not a movie every horror fan will love, a lot will, especially if you are fans of the FACES OF DEATH and TRACES OF DEATH type films. If anything, you at least have to appreciate the wonderful effects in the film, and the wonderful acting and directing for these scenes to come off as so real. I highly recommend this film. Watch the trailer below and let me know what you think. If you have seen this film, please comment and let others know what you thought of this film. As for me, I am now a big fan of Fred Vogels, and will be eagerly awaiting his next project!

DVD Review: MUM & DAD (2008)

I recently watched a great film from the U.K. called MUM & DAD. The film was written and directed by Steven Sheil and is being distributed by Revolver Entertainment. It is a pretty disturbing film with lots of surreal images and situations. The basic plot is a "Mum and Dad" who have two "adopted" kids, Birdie and Elbie, that work at the airport. Apparently, their job is to "recruit" new kids to come join Mum and Dad's happy little family. The newest victim is Lena, she is tricked into going home with Birdie and Elbie one night after missing her bus home. Once she is in the house, Mum and Dad don't plan on letting her leave. They keep Lena drugged for a few days and continue to do so, keeping Lena prisoner in the house. Mum and Dad make the kids do some very vile things. This is the definition of a dysfunctional family...in fact, that term is not even strong enough to describe this family. There is a lot of weird and disturbing stuff that goes on with this family, but one of the worst is when Lena discovers a 3rd child of this family. A mentally ill girl locked up in the attic who looks to have been fed just enough to keep her alive. She is called a "Spastic thing" by her brother Elbie, and the family is ashamed of her and keeps her locked up in the attic at all times. She is brought down only in the final part of the movie, when it is Christmas morning. I wont spoil what happens, but I will say that Elbie apparently has been holding back some strong feelings of remorse and sadness for the girl, and deals with it in his own unique way...freeing her forever from the state that she was in.
This movie is hard to describe, but it is definitely worth seeing. It is not the typical watered down horror films we get in the U.S. most of the time. This is a gritty, violent, shocking film that you will not forget long after viewing it. MUM & DAD is a must see for all fans of the Horror genre. The DVD is out now in an "Extreme Unrated Edition" and can be purchased directly from Revolver Entertainment!

SUICIDE GIRLS MUST DIE!

No, I am not stating an opinion, I am telling you the title of the newest Horror film staring The Suicide Girls! Basement Screams announced today that the poster for the new film SUICIDE GIRLS MUST DIE! has been released. First off, for those unfamiliar with The Suicide Girls, it is a Internet site devoted to nude modeling, but the women aren't your typical models. Suicidegirls.com features women that you wouldn't find on most modeling sites. At Suicidegirls.com, you will find alternative girls, goth chicks, and heavily tattooed women. It is a site that celebrates the beauty of women that "society" usually doesn't categorize as suitable for nude modeling.
What started as an Internet modeling site has turned into a global phenomenon. The Suicide Girls are now seen in all sorts of mediums. They have coffee table books, magazines,DVD's, and clothing! They even had a cameo in the HACK/SLASH Horror comic book! Now, they seem to branching out into Horror movies! If you caught THE WIZARD OF GORE remake that came out a couple of years ago, you saw the Suicide Girls in their first starring role! Now, we will get to see them in their new film, THE SUICIDE GIRLS MUST DIE! I think the tag line on the poster sums up the plot pretty well:

When twelve Calendar Models begin to disappear from a remote cabin, the girlie video they are shooting becomes the first Reality Horror movie!

Notice I fixed their spelling of "disappear"....somehow this poster art made it through every editor without anyone noticing the "a" was missing from the word disappear! Oh well..spelling errors aside, I'm sure this will be a fun film. The film is scheduled for DVD release on March 12th.

DVD review: KILLER CUP / KILLER CUP 2 Double Feature

So I always knew that Styrofoam cups were bad for the environment, but I never knew they could literally kill you! That is until I got the chance to see the wonderful KILLER CUP and KILLER CUP 2 Double Feature DVD!
The plot for KILLER CUP is simple. Styrofoam coffee cups are mad for the way they are treated and seek revenge! This is a French Canadian production, so the dialog is in French, and there are no subtitles. BUT...there is an extremely small amount of dialog in this film, so that is not an issue at all. It did not keep me from enjoying it in the least. This is a short film that packs a lot of action into it's 19 minutes. The cups themselves are great. Each one has its own look and they communicate to each other in a high pitched squeaky "voice". One thing that stands out in this film are the sound effects...from the "voices" of the cups to my favorite, the chomping or biting sounds made by the cups. While most of the cups attack people by themselves, they get smart toward the end and all team together to make one large super monster made up of nothing but coffee cups! Brilliant!! Also, there are a couple of great gore scenes, esp. the scene where a man sticks his arm down a girls mouth to extrude a coffee cup that has gone inside here and is controlling her. As you can tell, this is very creative and just a lot of fun.
KILLER CUP 2 is more fun with our friends the killer cups. This film runs a but longer clocking in at 36 minutes and is just as fun as the first, but even better than the first film in a few ways. First off, the production quality is much better. The look of the film is cleaner and looks more professional. Also, the amount of cups is increased in this film and there are even some uses of CGI cups to help with a couple chase scenes, in order to show the cups actually running after someone. The plot in this one is about the same, except the venue has switched to a camping trip in the woods (the first film looked to be in school/college setting). Another thing that was great about the 2nd film, is the inclusion of English Subtitles. This film has quite a bit more dialog than the first film, so the Subtitles are necessary here, while they weren't necessarily needed to enjoy the first film. There is also an amazing gore shot, where a woman is lying on the ground and is rolled over to reveal the entire back of her head missing thanks to a Killer Cup who is having a feast on her brains!
If you are looking for a fun movie, that would be great to watch with a group of friends to laugh with and have a good time, this is the perfect DVD! The films were written produced, and directed by Jef Grenier of A.Normale Productions, and is someone I will definitely be keeping an eye on to see what he brings us in the future! Speaking of....there is a teaser trailer on the A.Normale website for a new KILLER CUP movie that is in pre-production now.................KILLER CUP 3D!!!
Also....check back soon for your chance to win a copy of the KILLER CUP / KILLER CUP 2 Double Feature DVD! This DVD will be given away after our current contest closes, courtesty of A.Normale Productions!

A great week for Horror fans!! Definitely the one to get for sure is ZOMBIELAND! If you have not seen this film yet, do yourself a favor and watch it soon! I know I will be with a group of friends Tuesday night watching this film and eating Twinkies!! Also, THE HOUSE OF THE DEVIL has been getting lots of good press from what I have read. This is supposed to be a throwback to the great horror films of the 70's and 80's, so this is a must have for horror fans as well! Also, back in July of 2009 I posted the trailer for a lost at sea film called TRIANGLE. Well, the DVD is here. The trailer looks really good! Too many DVD's to buy this week!! That is a good thing, though!
