DVD Review: ANTISOCIAL

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2772092/ANTISOCIAL
Directed by
Distributed by Breaking Glass Pictures

  I always knew social media could rot our brains, but this is ridiculous!  ANTISOCIAL is a great virus film with a cool twist. The infected ones are reminiscent of the fast zombies from films like 28 DAYS LATER and such   They are not really zombies, as they were not dead first, but just highly infected people.  Here is the official plot from Breaking Glass Pictures:

  Five university friends gather at a house party to ring in the New Year. Unbeknownst to them, an epidemic has erupted outside, causing outbreaks around the world. With nowhere else to turn, they barricade themselves indoors with only their phones, laptops, and other tech devices. They use their devices to research the possible cause of this outbreak. Information and video footage over flow their computers as they descend further into the cause and the ensuing chaos. As the virus spreads, the mood in the house changes from fear to paranoia. Who is safe? Who can they trust? Reality becomes blurred as they slowly discover the source of the virus causing the sickness...and there is no going back.

  I love movies like this where people are trapped in a building and something crazy like this is going on outside around them.  Before laptops and cell phones, no one would have known what was going on outside.   This movie shows us know that with all the electronic gadgets we have nowadays, we are never truly alone and we can see and hear everything that is happening outside, whether we want to or not.

  This was a very enjoyable film for many reasons.  The acting was so-so, nothing amazing here, but the way the film was made was worth the watch.  The film had some great visuals, especially when the infected start to hallucinate.  The film also had a good amount of gore.   The writing was good with some very intense scenes, especially one in which a friend of the people barricaded inside the house comes to the door begging to be let in.  The scene inside is just what I would imagine would really happen, with some of the people saying to let him in and others saying to keep him out.  The struggle inside between the friends concerning a friend outside in need of help was very effective.

I recommend ANTISOCIAL for sure.  It is out now on DVD from Breaking Glass Pictures. Special Features include

*  Behind the Scenes Featurette
*  Director's Commentary
