Magazine Spotlight: COFFIN CUTIES MAGAZINE!
I am a huge fan of horror magazines. I love reading about horror movies, news, or any info pertaining to my favorite genre of film! As a male, I also can't deny that I like beautiful women as well, and photo layouts of beautiful women mixed with a horror theme is pretty much the best you can get! That is exactly what you will find in the this new horror mag, COFFIN CUTIES! Here is brief description of what COFFIN CUTIES is all about from the magazine's official website:
Welcome to the world of Coffin Cuties® – the macabre magazine of chilling cheesecake that celebrates the death-styles of the grim and nefarious! This torrid tome of gruesomely gorgeous girls will reanimate your postmortem passions like a lightning-charged Tesla coil and leave your wicked werewolf howling for more! Let our femme fatalities and Grande dames of the dungeon escort you through spine-tingling catacombs of erotica in this jaw-dropping journal that your mummy warned you about! Coffin Cuties® is where sensual meets sideshow, fantasy meets phantasm and beauty brings out its beast. So curl up in your hip crypt, your laboratory lounge or your black lagoon rumpus room as mad doctor Mike Hearse unleashes the kindest curse – the tantalizing terror of the Coffin Cuties®!
I received issue #2 and from what I can tell, this magazine is mainly a pictorial magazine, made up of photo spreads on almost every page of the magazine. There is one article in the back in issue #2, which is a great article/interview with the makers of the independent horror film, "7TH DAY". Sorry guys, this is not a magazine you can use the excuse that you "just read it for the articles"! Ha!
You are getting your money's worth with this one! Although, I have to admit, I would love to see some more articles mixed throughout the magazine in the future. I would love to see some movie reviews, news, and other info mixed along with the photo layouts of the coffin cuties!
If you want a fun horror magazine, check out COFFIN CUTIES for sure!

Blu-ray Review: NEKROMANTIK
NEKROMANTIK
Written & Directed by Jörg Buttgereit
Distributed by Cult Epics / CAV Distributing
Most hardcore horror fans are pretty familiar with the NEKROMANTIK films. They have long been out of print and a treasure for DVD collectors to get their hands on. Well now everyone can get their hands on a copy thanks to Cult Epics which has recently released this landmark film on a new Special Edition DVD and Blu-ray!
For those unfamiliar with the film, here is the basic plot synopsis from the Cult Epics website:
Nekromantik tells the story of Rob (Daktari Lorenz) who works at a street-cleaning Agency, and visits roadside accidents to clean up the scene. Incidentally Rob collects the body parts and shares them with his girlfriend Betty (Beatrice M.) When Rob presents a complete corpse taken out of a swamp, their undying love reaches its peak, but soon after Betty gets a more liking towards the corpse and leaves Rob, which takes him to the sick end of his destruction.
I hate to admit it, but I can't help but like this movie. While the a movie about necrophilia shouldn't be something I like, I tend to like any film these days that can truly shock me. I had never seen this film before this new release. I can't imagine what audiences thought back in the 80's when this film was first released. It is still shocking today as it was back then, and that to me is a good thing. I love a movie that can actually effect me to where I am still thinking about it days after watching it. This film did that. While the story and subject matter is very gross, there is some truly amazing gore in this film, including a woman cut in half after a car accident which still looked way too real to me!
Also on this new release is one of Jorg Buttgereit's early short films, HOT LOVE. This 40 minute short film is an awesome addition to this release. This is a gore filled romp in the same vein as NEKROMANTIK. Here is the plot synopsis of HOT LOVE from the director's personal website:
Daktari Lorenz falls in eternal, blissfull love with Marion (Marion Koob) at a party. He is in heaven... but soon she dumps him and moves in with a tall, blond new lover (Jörg Buttgereit himself). Daktari vows bitter revenge. He rapes the girl thus creating a monster baby that will show Marion what “Present Me with Your Heart” literally means. Dark, brooding and violent, this movie, made in 1985, set the tone for NEKROMANTIK.
NEKROMANTIK is available now from Cult Epics in a 2-Disc Special Edition DVD or on Blu-ray, and contains the following special features:
- New Director’s approved HD transfer (taken from the original Super 8mm negative)
- New Grindhouse HD version (taken from the Theatrical 35mm print)

DVD Review: KILLING MR. RIGHT (2014)
KILLING MR. RIGHT
Written & Directed by Kerry Beyer
Produced by Kerosene Films
It's hard to believe it's been 5 years since I reviewed a film from director Kerry Beyer. That film was called SPIRIT CAMP and was one of the best independent horror films I have seen in a long time. You can read my review of SPIRIT CAMP here. I mentioned in that review that I looked forward to seeing future projects from this amazing filmmaker. Well, here we are 5 years later and Kerry Beyer's newest film, KILLING MR. RIGHT, is now available for our viewing pleasure! Needless to say, Beyer does not disappoint in his latest film. This film is more of a crime/revenge flick than true horror film, but horror fans will be glad to know that this film is still full of carnage and gore! Before I go any further, here is the basic plot of the film from the Kerosene Films website:
Convinced her roommate’s new fiancé is the man who abducted and raped her, a young law student, suffering from post traumatic stress disorder, takes justice into her own hands as she exacts revenge… but does she have the right man? Elizabeth Jackson and Kerry Beyer star in this disturbing revenge thriller that pushes the limits of sadism, giving a whole new meaning to the phrase “cruel and unusual punishment.”
KILLING MR. RIGHT is an excellent film that will entertain you on many levels. The film is a great crime/revenge flick, but as stated above, the film delivers in terms of blood and gore as well, including guy getting disemboweled and a woman getting her eyeball plucked out of her head with a meat hook! Yuck! I won't say anymore, as I don't want to give too much away, but this is a film you will definitely want to check out. The film has some laugh out loud dialog as well, to lighten the mood a bit on what is otherwise a very dark, serious film. The acting is very good as well, with every member of the cast turning in a great performance.
The press release says that KILLING MR. RIGHT is "a psychological horror film reminiscent of I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE meets AMERICAN PSYCHO". This is a very good comparison and if you are a fan of those films, I think you will definitely enjoy this film. KILLING MR. RIGHT is available now through various platforms including DVD and VOD. The DVD contains the following special features:
* Director Commentary
* Behind the Scenes
* Special FX Makeup Tutorial
* Lord Von Black Music Video

DVD Review: NECROPHILE PASSION
NECROPHILE PASSION
Written & Directed by Tom Heidenberg
Distributed by Black Lava Entertainment
I recently watched another very shocking movie, this one dealing with one of the most taboo subjects there is, Necrophilia. The film is called NECROPHILE PASSION and it is as gross and disturbing as you think it would be. This is not a topic we see much in horror films, in fact, the only other films I can think on with this topic as their main story line are the German NEKROMANTIK films from the late 80's /early 90s. Most studios and filmmakers these days would dare not make a new movie about this subject, but Black Lava Entertainment is apparently not your normal film company! This is a company known for distributing films that are ground breaking and barrier breaking, with no subject too sensitive to cover.
Here is the plot of NECROPHILE PASSION from the Black Lava Entertainment website:
After having been left by his girlfriend, who treated him like shit, a young man finds a female body in a nearby woods. His conscience tells him to call the police, but a sinister urge commands him to take the corpse home with him. After having done so, his dark desires go rampant and he molests the corpse various times. His life is in shambles and only the love to the woman's dead body gives him the strength to continue. However, he has not yet tied up all the loose ends with his girlfriend and it is time for him to finally get his revenge. Who will triumph in this diabolical love triangle? Man, woman or corpse?
I remember being totally disgusted years ago when I watched the NEKROMANTIK dvds. This film does a remarkable job of shocking the viewer just as the NEKROMANTIK movies did years ago. It's hard to say this film is good, as the subject matter is so hard to watch and deal with. The movie is very well made, though, almost to an artistic degree at various points in the film. The acting is great and with a 52 minute run time, the movie is paced very well and doesn't drag on like some films do when they feel they have to stretch the movie out to 80 or 90 minutes.
This film was obviously made to shock and disturb people, and with that being the case, the filmmakers succeeded on every level. If you are a fan of shock cinema, this is one you will want to check out for sure!
Black Lava Entertainment is an Austrian based DVD company, but this DVD played fine in my player, so their DVD's must be region free.

DVD Review: AMERIKAN HOLOKAUST
AMERIKAN HOLOKAUST
Directed by Chris Woods
Distributed by Icon Film Studios/The Sleaze Box
I have seen some brutal movies before, but this one is among the most brutal film I have ever laid eyes on. The film is called AMERIKAN HOLOKAUST and is about two of the worst serial killers in American history. What we see is the videotape that the killers made as they documented all the women they kidnapped, tortured, and killed.
Obviously this is going to draw comparisons to the cult AUGUST UNDERGROUND series. While they are very similar in nature, AMERIKAN HOLOKAUST steps it up a notch (or two) in terms of violence and perversion from the AU films. While we don't just see women kidnapped and tortured, AMERIKAN HOLOKAUST goes all out and adds cannibalism and some of the most grotesque gore I have seen in a film in quite some time. The acting is extremely good by Bob Glazier and Jules Sceiro who play the parts of the serial killers. They give very extreme performances and are very believable in their roles. Most of the female actresses playing the victims do a great job as well, especially for the tough role they had to play. A couple of them seemed a little too calm in nature considering their circumstances, but overall the acting was very good.
Again I have to mention the gore. At one point, a woman is murdered and then cut open while one of the killers begins to eat her intestines and then do naughty things with her spleen. I'll leave that up to your imagination...until you actually watch the dvd, of course, then the exact image will be stuck in your head forever like mine! Ugh!
If you are looking for a scary horror movie with a great plot and scares, this is not the film for you. If you are a fan of the AUGUST UNDERGROUND trilogy, SCRAPBOOK, SCHRAMM, or similar films, then this is the DVD for you. AMERIKAN HOLOKAUST is truly shocking, something you don't see much these days with the normal, mainstream horror films. Kudos to the filmmakers for such an incredibly realistic view on this subject matter. Knowing that people like this actually exist in the world make this even more shocking and hard to believe.
AMERIKAN HOLOKAUST and all their other DVD's (except newest releases) are on sale for only $5 (plus S&H) for the entire month of October! Click the links below to watch the trailer and purchase the DVD!

Blu-ray review: THE DEAD 2
THE DEAD 2
Written & Directed by: Howard J. Ford and Jonathan Ford
Distributed by Anchor Bay Entertainment
Three years ago I wrote a review of the Ford Brothers zombie film, THE DEAD. You can read that review here. THE DEAD was one of the best zombie films I have ever seen. I loved every second of that film. I was very excited to hear that they were making a sequel. As you know, most sequels are never as good as the original film, but I am happy to report that THE DEAD 2 is just as good as the first. In fact, it is almost a carbon copy of the first film, with different characters in a different location, but as good as the first film was, I was fine with "more of the same".
Here is the basic plot of the film from the film's official press release:
A ship docks fresh from Somalia which contains one infected worker that passes unnoticed into the very heart of India’s overpopulated bustling streets, setting off an unstoppable chain of events. Meanwhile, American turbine engineer Nicholas Burton (Joseph Millson, Casino Royale) is working in the stark yet tranquil Indian countryside when he receives a call from his love Ishani (Meenu), a local girl who lives on the outskirts of the slums of Mumbai and who has hidden their relationship from her tradition-minded father. She reveals she is now pregnant and scared for her life as chaos and terror have taken ahold of the cities as the dead return to life and attack the living. Nicholas has to battle his way across their 300 mile landscape filled with flesh-eating – and infectious – undead. With the help of young street kid Javed (Anand Goyal), he has to rely on his wits and sheer brute force to try and save them all, as the clock ticks off the minutes before the last flight out of a living hell...
I have read some reviews of this film with complaints that this film was too similar to the first. As I stated before that is true, but my answer to that is that I didn't want the first movie to end. It was just that good. So for me, I had no problem with this sequel being like the first film. I think that is why so many sequels don't work, because the filmmakers try to be drastically different in their approach to the second film. Sticking with what worked the first time seems to work, an example that comes to mind is EVIL DEAD 2. That was a film that was better than the original, but was basically a remake of the first film.
If you saw THE DEAD, then you know exactly what to expect from THE DEAD 2. It is more of the best zombie mayhem you will see in most zombie movies these days. The story is simple, yet interesting enough to keep you entertained the entire running time. The cinematography of this film is amazing as well. Just like the first film which took place in Africa, the scenery in this film now set in India was breathtaking at times. Great camera angles and camerawork are a nice addition to what is already a great film.
THE DEAD 2 is available now on DVD and Blu-ray. I highly recommend you check this one out! Special Features include:
* Deleted Scenes
* The Making of THE DEAD 2
