A Measure of the Sin:
Every childhood is normal to the child who lives it. For Meredith that means an enchanted seclusion that is shattered when she is deprived of her mother. Desperate and alone, Meredith must join a household with other women and their children, a sinister man who controls every facet of her existence, and a vicious bear that only she can see. As life in this world becomes increasingly strange and frightening, Meredith realizes that she must flee, even though she fears she has not learned enough to survive on her own.
Blind:
For happily married detective Richard Larson, the hunt for a demented serial killer gets personal when he begins to experience mysterious visions of the killer’s victims - before their bodies are discovered! The trail of evidence points to Clive Rudolph, a seemingly affable locksmith with a disturbing past. When yet another woman is abducted, the tension mounts as the race to save her life grows ever more desperate. But the closer Detective Larson comes to uncovering the facts, the nearer he gets to exposing a shattering secret that will haunt him forever

CD Review: MUSIC TO BE BURIED BY by Gravetone Productions
MUSIC TO BE BURIED BY
Music CD by Grave Tone Productions
One of the great things I ran across at this year's Texas Frightmare Convention, was the Grave Tone Productions booth. As I got near the booth I heard some great music coming from a speaker system they had set up. It was a very cool sound so I stopped and talked a bit. I left with a copy of their 1st CD, MUSIC TO BE BURIED BY. I have been listening to it off and on the car on the way to and from work over the past couple of weeks and I find myself liking it more and more with every listen.
According to their website, "Grave Tone composes music for films, sound design for film/tv, haunted attractions, websites and more." I have heard some music similar to this in the past, made for use in horror films and haunted houses and such, but I have never heard anything quite like this. This is haunted house music pumped up with some heavy metal mixed in. All of the songs are written and arranged by Grave Tone Productions, and they have some very talented musicians on hand. All of the songs are very well done, and the heavy guitar riffs add a very cool edge to the creepy sound of the album. A lot of the songs make you think you're listening to the soundtrack of a horror movie, which is obviously what the musicians were going for.
If you have never heard anything by this talented group of musicians, I urge you to check their stuff out as soon as you can. MP3's of their songs are available on iTunes, CDBaby, and Amazon, or click the link below to purchase a physical CD.

Blu-ray Review: THE BOY (2016)
THE BOY
Directed by William Brent Bell
Distributed by Universal Pictures Home Entertainment
This is a film I remember really wanting to see in the theaters, but never got a chance to. The previews looked so creepy, I just had to see it. Finally I got the chance now that THE BOY has been released to home video. I am happy to report that the film lived up to the creepiness of it's trailer! For those unfamiliar with the film, here is the plot synopsis courtesy of the Universal Pictures Home Entertainment website:
The Boy is a frightening thrill ride directed by William Brent Bell (The Devil Inside) and starring Lauren Cohan (The Walking Dead). Greta (Cohan) is a young American woman who takes a job as a nanny in a remote English village. She soon discovers that the family’s 8-year-old is a life-sized doll that they care for just like a real boy, as a way to cope with the death of their son 20 years prior. After violating a list of strict rules, a series of disturbing and inexplicable events bring Greta’s worst nightmare to life, leading her to believe that the doll is actually alive.
Dolls in horror movies have always creeped me out. Just when you think they can't get any worse comes THE BOY! This is honestly one of the creepiest dolls I have ever seen in a horror film.
The film looks amazing, taking place in a beautiful English countryside. The shots and cinematography are top notch. The acting is very good as well, especially from Lauren Cohan, who plays Greta in the film. Most all horror fans will recognize Lauren as Maggie from THE WALKING DEAD. It was nice seeing her in something other than TWD, and she did an amazing job here.
This is not a gory, over the top horror film at all. Instead, it is a very atmospheric, low key film that exudes a creepy, disturbing vibe throughout the film. Well, that is until the last 20-30 minutes of the film, all that goes out the window and it is an action packed free for all! I won't tell you anything more about that, so as to not spoil anything for you. You'll just have to check that out for yourself!
I know a lot of horror fans shun PG-13 rated horror films, often saying that a "real" horror film has to be rated 'R'. This is a film that will probably change the mind of a lot of those type of people. PG-13 films can be scary, and THE BOY is proof of that for sure! I highly recommend this one and urge you to check it out as soon as you can!
THE BOY was just released to DVD and Blu-ray this week from Universal Pictures Home Entertainment. You can find it at all major retailers or click below to purchase from Amazon.

Blu-ray Review: THE ZERO BOYS (1986)
THE ZERO BOYS
Directed by Nico Mastorakis
Distributed by Arrow Films / MVD Entertainment Group
If you recognize the name of Director Nico Mastorakis, it's probably from his infamous 1976 film, ISLAND OF DEATH. That was the only film I had ever seen of his until watching this new release from Arrow Films titled, THE ZERO BOYS. While not as wild and depraved as ISLAND OF DEATH, it is a great film by this legendary director. Here is the basic plot from the MVD website:
From cult director Nico Mastorakis, the man behind such eclectic offerings as the controversial Island of Death and the Oliver Reed-starring actioner Hired to Kill, comes The Zero Boys - the genre-bending '80s classic with gruesome sequences that anticipate the torture porn horrors of Hostel and Saw. For a group of young friends, a weekend of survival games in the wilderness turns into a genuine battle of life and death when one of their number turns up dead. Finding themselves hunted by a bloodthirsty band of maniacs intent on slaughtering them one-by-one, the self-styled "Zero Boys" must now play their war games for real. Starring Kelli Maroney (Night of the Comet, Chopping Mall) and featuring an early score from the legendary Hans Zimmer (Inception, The Dark Knight Trilogy), The Zero Boys mixes action, survival and all-out slasher movie elements in a thrilling horror yarn that falls somewhere between Friday the 13th and Deliverance.
I had never even heard of this movie before I got it for review. This really surprises me, as I was huge into horror movies as a kid, and this came out when I was 10 years old...I should have seen this one. Somehow, this one slipped past me. Luckily, this film holds up 30 years later! This was an extremely fun film which started out pretty silly with all the paintball stuff, but transformed into an action packed slasher film.
One thing I noticed multiple times throughout the film was the amazing camera shot and cinematography. One scene in particular made me say "Wow!" out loud and demanded a rewind to see it again. This is a scene when one of the girls is in the car and looks out and sees the killer for the first time. He is standing there holding a knife and all you can see is his silhouette in front of the dark blue of the night sky. This scene can be seen briefly in the trailer below, but looks so much better on the Blu-ray of the film.
Another thing I noticed about this film was how much ahead of it's time it was. There is part of the film where the guys find a video camera set up in the barn pointed at an empty chair. Later they find a TV which is broadcasting what is happening in the barn through the video camera setup. This was a very unique twist to the film and reminded me of something you'd see in more modern horror films.
As always, Arrow Video has done an amazing job with this release. Their releases are always packed full of great special features and this one is no different. THE ZERO BOYS is available now on Arrow Blu-ray/DVD combo from MVD Entertainment and contains the following special features:
* Brand new 2K restoration of the film, approved by writer-director Nico Mastorakis
* High Definition Blu-ray (1080p) and Standard Definition DVD presentations
