DVD Review: BUNNYMAN MASSACRE
BUNNYMAN MASSACRE
Written & Directed by Carl Lindbergh
Distributed by Midnight Releasing
Yes!! Finally....a slasher film that feels fresh and new, and not just like something we have already seen before redone with different characters! BUNNYMAN MASSACRE is one of the most original and fun slashers I have seen in a long time!! Here is the basic plot of the film from the Midnight Releasing website:
The adventures of Joe and Bunnyman know no limit of bloodlust and carnage. Bodies pile up as Bunnyman indiscriminately slaughters anything that crosses his path in a mutually beneficial relationship that gives Joe plenty of beef jerky to sell in his local store.
I knew I was going to like this one from the opening scene involving a killer in a bunny suit wielding a chainsaw and attacking a bus full of kids. Most movies would not show a bus full of kids getting slaughtered, but this movie doesn't hold back or pull any punches. Don't worry though, it doesn't really show any of the kids getting killed, that would obviously upset me. The way they did it was almost with a comical tone, so it really wasn't as disturbing as it could have been, which is a good thing since it involved kids.
The rest of the film, thought is very brutal, with some great kill scenes and some awesome gore. The film was made well, and the pacing is very good. With some slasher films you can get very bored between the kill scenes, but BUNNYMAN MASSACRE kept my attention the entire running time. I loved this film and highly recommend it for any fans of slasher films.
BUNNYMAN MASSACRE is available on DVD now from Midnight Releasing and contains the following special features:
-Audio Commentary
-Behind-The-Scenes Featurette
-Deleted Scenes
-Cast & Crew Interviews
-Joe's Guide to Dating
-Bunnyman Gets Fast Food

DVD Review: GRINDHOUSE TRAILER CLASSICS
GRINDHOUSE TRAILER CLASSICS
Distributed by Intervision Pictures/Severin Films
I am a huge fan of trailer compilations. Probably because of my short attention span and ability to fall asleep during any movie at any time of the day! Trailers are perfect or me, it's like watching bunch of 2-3 minute films in a row! If you don't like one you are watching, in a just a few minutes there's a brand new "movie" to watch!
GRINDHOUSE TRAILER CLASSICS has to be my favorite trailer compilation I have seen by far! These are my kinds of films....crazy, dirty, gory, and some are just flat out weird! I love the films from the "grindhouse" era and seeing all these great trailers is a great way to find some new movies that you might not have know about! Here is some info about this DVD from the official press release:
GRINDHOUSE cinemas could once be found in the sleaziest and run-down areas of America's grimiest cities. New York's 42nd Street was one of the most famous trash pit hangouts for denizens of the lower depths. From dusk 'till dawn the theatres would screen a mind-boggling assortment of movies featuring lashings of sex, gore and violence - and if you were lucky, you'd get all three! SEE for the first time ever on DVD in America you can now sit back and take a twisted trip back to the glory days of the sleazy 60s and 70s for a roaring rampage through a two-hour hand-picked collection of some of the most insane examples of trailer trash ever to slash and burn their way through a Grindhouse cinema projector.
MARVEL at the fact that most of the actual films themselves could never live up to the jaw dropping lunacy of these incredible trailers, some of which can today be considered true masterpieces in advertising and marketing. With their often hilarious voice-overs and mind-bending taglines, plus all the best bits from the movies themselves, they add up to one thing - sheer entertainment! BE AMAZED that Contemporary Directors such as Quentin Tarantino (GRINDHOUSE), Eli Roth (HOSTEL) and Rob Zombie (THE DEVIL'S REJECTS) have all since revisited these movies and have made their own supercharged movies relying heavily on the essence of many of these seventies Grindhouse cinema classics. Tarantino in particular has drawn a huge amount of his inspiration from these movies and trailers in many of his films, so we've included some of his favorites here - see if you can spot them!
THRILL to the fact that many of the then unknown actors and filmmakers from these choice cuts went on to much bigger and better things, so it's no surprise that these fantastic flicks have since achieved cult status, making GRINDHOUSE TRAILER CLASSICS a must-own DVD that's ideal for parties in your very own private Grindhouse...
This is such a fun DVD, I would say this is a must own for any horror / exploitation film fan. The DVD contains 55 trailers for some of the best grindhouse films ever made. They don't make movies like this anymore, so get a copy of this DVD and re-live these great films in the comfort of your own home. GRINDHOUSE TRAILER CLASSICS is available now on DVD and contains the following special features:
* BUMP 'N GRIND - Cult presenter Emily Booth explores the world of Grindhouse Cinema
* Gallery of Grindhouse Poster Art

DVD Review: DEPORTED WOMEN OF THE SS SPECIAL SECTION (1976)
DEPORTED WOMEN OF THE SS SPECIAL SECTION
Written & Directed by Rino Di Silvestro
Distributed by Intervision Pictures/Severin Films
Wow, they just don't make movies like this anymore. I am a huge fan of exploitation films, and the naziploitation sub-genre. If you are not familiar with the Naziploitation films, read about them here. I love that Intervision Pictures is re-releasing some of the best naziploitation films ever made. Last month I reviewed Intervision's release of GESTAPO'S LAST ORGY (see review here). Now I am getting to review another of their great releases, DEPORTED WOMEN OF THE SS SPECIAL SECTION!
This is one of the crazier Naziploitation films I have seen, but still not the craziest. That title goes to 1976's SALON KITTY. This one is close second, though, and probably better overall. Here is the basic plot of the film from the Severin Films website:
One of the first Italian ‘Nazisploitation’ shockers is also one of the strangest: John Steiner stars as the depraved Commandant of a camp where beautiful women are brutalized, degraded, forced to submit to female officers, and trained to be prostitutes for the Reich. But will a mass escape attempt unleash the most sadistic tortures of all? Lina Polito, Erna Schurer, Sara Sperati and Solvi Stubing co-star in this rancid slab of über-sleaze from writer/director Rino Di Silvestro, now presented totally uncensored including the notorious ‘cork & razor’ scene!
I think this is one of the better made Naziploitation films from all the ones I have seen. This one brings something new to the table with some very disturbing scenes, including a "shaving" scene were the actresses actually had their heads (among other things) shaved. I can't imagine being an actor in one of these films. These women went through a lot during the filming I assume. That really helps with the realistic feel of the film, though. Don't worry too much about the ladies,though....they get their revenge in the end!
If you have never seen a Naziploitation film, this is a good one to start with. DEPORTED WOMEN OF THE SS SPECIAL SECTION is available now from Intervision Picture Corp. Intervision has been releasing some great DVD's lately, and I love the retro looking cover artwork they have been using for these films. The DEPORTED WOMEN OF THE SS SPECIAL SECTION DVD contains the following special features:
* A Brief History of Sadiconazista- Interview with Film Historian Marcus Stiglegger
* What Does John Steiner Think?
* Camp Rino- Interview with Director Rino Di Silvestro
* Theatrical Trailer

Has anyone found an 8 bit Jason Voorhees figure at their local Toys 'R Us store yet?
If you hadn't heard yet, NECA toys has released a Toys 'R Us exclusive Jason Voorhees figure. The figure is a 8-bit Mego style Jason figure, very similar to the one released at San Diego Comic Con in 2013. The figure is based on the look of Jason from the original Nintendo Friday The 13th game as seen in this screen shot below:
This is one collectible I wanted so bad, but couldn't get my hands on. Now that they are releasing it to the Toys 'R Us stores, I might have a chance. Unfortunately, they are starting to show up in Toys 'R Us stores all over the country, yet I have been to my local store twice in the last week and they have not got them yet.
Here is what the package looks like:
Let me know if you are one of the lucky ones who find this collectible at your local Toys 'R Us. Also, if your store has them and you pick an extra one up for me, I will gladly PayPal you the price of the figure, your shipping costs, and I will give you a shout out on my blog telling the entire world what an awesome person you are!! Ha!
Good luck finding these!

DVD Review: DEAD ON APPRAISAL
DEAD ON APPRAISAL
Directed by Sean Canfield, Scott Dawson and David Sherbrook
Distributed by Brain Damage Films
I have seen some crazy films in my life, but this one is up there in terms of crazy! Here is the basic plot synopsis from the Brain Damage Films website:
In this bizarre anthology, Infested Films tells the story of real estate agent John Dante, who can't sell his house. By reliving the house's sordid past, John discovers that there may be more lurking beneath the surface of this seemingly cursed abode.
This anthology is made up of three tales: THE MORNING AFTER, FATHER LAND, and FREDDIE AND THE GOBLINS. I found the first tale and third to be a lot of fun. The middle tale, FATHER LAND, was way too slow for me. In fact, I found myself actually fast forwarding through that one....something I rarely do. But as the saying goes, two out of three 'aint bad!
DEAD ON APPRAISAL is extremely low budget and it shows, but what the filmmakers are able to do with their budget is pretty amazing when it comes to the effects and gore in this film. The gore really is the star of the show here, with tons of blood and crazy effects, most of which are all practical effects. Very little CG is used that I can tell, except for the scene where someone gets shot and you can see right through him through the hole in his abdomen. That was a very cool scene, though, so we can let the CG slide for that one (you can probably tell I am not a fan of the CG effects in horror films).
I couldn't do a review of this film without mentioning the puppets from the final story. Yes, I said puppets. Seems silly, but I can't help but like a movie with puppets, especially when they are as nasty and crude as these puppets are!
While not a masterpiece by any means, DEAD ON APPRAISAL is a fun film and definitely worth you checking out. If you've seen it already, leave a comment and let me know what you thought!

Blu-ray Review: RIGOR MORTIS
RIGOR MORTIS
Directed by Juno Mak
Distributed by WELL GO USA
I recently watched RIGOR MORTIS, not having any clue what to expect going into this film. The film has a first time director, and a crazy sounding plot, so I went into this completely blindfolded. I came out of it, though, with my eyes wide open and looking forward to the next film from Juno Mak. This film is a treat for your eyes with some of the most visually stunning effects I have seen in some time. Before I go any further, here is the plot of the film courtesy of the Well Go USA website:
A washed-up actor, desperate and suicidal, moves into a haunted apartment building where supernatural creatures, ghost hunters, Taoist exorcists, and the souls of the undead are among his neighbors
The plot sounds pretty simple, yet the film was actually a little confusing to me at times. Mainly because of the ghost aspect and not really knowing if who, or what, you are seeing is actually "real" or not. The plot really is not that important though, when watching a film that is just this visually beautiful! The effects and creepy imagery are the star of the show here and do not disappoint. Throw in a healthy dose of some of the greatest martial arts action I have seen in quite some time, and you have one movie that will blow you away.
Turn down the lights, crank up the surround sound and get ready for a fun ride! I have a big fan of RIGOR MORTIS and highly recommend it! RIGOR MORTIS is out now on DVD and Blu-ray from Well Go USA Home Entertainment.

The notorious GUINNEA PIG series is being revived in the new AMERICAN GUINNEA PIG films!
If you are a fan of horror, especially gore films, then you surely know about the Japanese GUINNEA PIG series of films. These included the titles DEVIL'S EXPERIMENT, ANDROID OF NOTRE DAME, MERMAID IN A MANHOLE, and FLOWER OF FLESH AND BLOOD as well as few others. These films were known for their graphic violence and realistic looking gore. In fact, they looked so realistic that many times the films were thought to be actual snuff films, launching actual police investigations into the films and their creators.
The great folks at Unearthed Films brought these films to the U.S. with an excellent box set years ago. Now, the founder of Unearthed Films, Stephen Biro, is bringing the Guinea Pig series back in a BIG way! Mr. Biro will be directing the first installment of a new revamping of the series called, aptly named, AMERICAN GUINEA PIG! The first film in this new series is titled BOUQUET OF GUTS AND GORE. I think that title pretty much sums up what you will see in this new series of films. I know I am super excited for this new project! Here are some pics from the first film that will give you a small sampling of what is in store for you with the new AMERICAN GUINEA PIG films!
Stay tuned and I will pass on more details once they are available! Also, like the AMERICAN GUINEA PIG Facebook page for more info and details!

Check out the interview Rob Zombie about his new film, 31, and how you can help support the film!
I'm sure by now everyone has heard about Rob Zombie's next horror project, a film called 31. I guess he is going a different route with this film and is not going through a studio with the film. In fact, he is using the site FanBacked (similar to Kickstarter or Indiegogo) to raise money for the film! Contributors can get some great perks for donating, including signed posters and DVDs, and even the chance to be an extra in the film!
According to Mr. Zombie, 31 was inspired by a fact he read about how many people disappear every October 31st. Here is the plot from the film's imdb page:
Five people are kidnapped on the days leading up to Halloween and held hostage in a place called Murder World. While trapped, they must play a violent game called 31 where the mission is to survive 12 hours against a gang of evil clowns.
CLICK HERE to visit the 31 FanBacked website, watch the interview, and contribute!
