H.G. Lewis is set to return to the director's chair for the upcoming film, ZOMBIFICADOR

 

  If you are a fan of horror, you no doubt know the name Herschell Gordon Lewis.  He is nicknamed "The Godfather of Gore" as he first brought gore to the mainstream with the films now known as his "Blood Trilogy",  BLOOD FEAST  (1963), TWO THOUSAND MANIACS  (1964) and COLOR ME BLOOD RED  (1965).  His latest film was 2009's THE UH-OH SHOW.   I am glad to see Mr. Lewis coming back with a new project so soon!  His last feature before THE UH-OH SHOW was in 2002  (BLOOD FEAST 2), but before that film, his last feature was THE GORE GORE GIRLS back in 1972!!  
  Well Mr. Lewis is coming back with the just announced ZOMBIFICADOR!   I am not really sure what that title means, but here is the synopsis from the official press release:  

  ZOMBIFICADOR is an old-style anthology movie, with several stories that interconnect with each other in some point. From big fat monsters with the ability of transforming people into savage creatures, to human-sized mutant bugs, along with talking puppets and silent psycho killers, that’s what ZOMBIFICADOR is all about.  With five (5) different stories, ZOMBIFICADOR will be the goriest and grossest movie ever made by Herschell Gordon Lewis! In a comeback to his classic gore films, we are proud to present you with the wildest movie ever made by the “Godfather of Gore,” the most important horror filmmaker and the inventor of Gore and Splatter.

  In order to get the movie funded, the production company, Mugworth Productions, has started an indigogo campaign in order to raise funds for the film.

A crowdfunding campaign is currently underway through Indiegogo. This is an attempt to raise the $100,000 necessary to keep this production entirely free of studio interference, making it truly independent. It will run until July 7th 2013, with initial filming scheduled for the fourth quarter of the year. DVD Review: THE UH-OH SHOW (2009)

For those familiar with the work of H.G. Lewis, you know what you are in for with one
of his films.   He is known as the "Godfather of Gore" for good reason.   His films are packed
full of blood and guts and his latest film, THE UH-OH SHOW, is no exception.  Here is the plot from imdb.com:
 
Jill Burton is a reporter who's dead set on getting the scoop behind The Uh-Oh! Show, the gory TV sensation that's sweeping the nation. Get the answer right and win piles of dough, get it wrong and Uh-Oh! it s off with your arms, legs, or more! Fred Finagler, the shows mastermind, feeds the fans depraved cravings by launching an even bloodier reality spectacular filled with Big Bad Wolf attacks, Hansel & Gretel-style torture massacres, and mauling mutilations from the Three Bears and a gore-crazed Goldilocks. It's just the type of prime-time violence Fred needs to keep the ratings high!

 If you are a fan of Mr. Lewis' films, then you will love THE UH-OH SHOW!  Even though this is a new film, it still has a look and feel to it as though it is one of his films from the 60's or 70's.   The film has a hilarious plot centered around a game show where you loose more than just money if you get an answer wrong.   The acting is not the strongest, but let's be honest...that's not what we are really looking for when we watch film from the Godfather of Gore!  We are here for the gore and just like his blood trilogy films from years ago, they are full of the red stuff!  You will witness arms and legs being cut off, as well has a head or two!  What is great is that all this is done with almost all practical effects.  Lewis does join the modern class of filmmakers and does use some CG effects, but they are very minimal.  Mainly just a blood splatter here and there. 

 If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend you check out THE UH-OH SHOW.  They don't make movies like this anymore.  Today's films that contain this much blood and guts are very dark and on a very serious not.  H.G. Lewis knows the gore is over the top, and plays it that way with some tongue-in-cheek humor.  The film is campy and fun, just like Mr. Lewis wanted it to be.  This is another piece of great work from one of the living legends of our time.

DVD Review: TRILOGY OF BLOOD (2010)

TRILOGY OF BLOOD

I just watched the short film (27 minutes), TRILOGY OF BLOOD.  While the film is basically a way to feature the Psychobilly Rock band, The Deadneks, it also stands alone as a great tribute to the horror films of the 60's and 70's, most notably, those of the legendary Godfather of Gore, Herschell Gordon Lewis.  In fact, the title of the film is a takeoff of Lewis' Blood Trilogy (Blood Feast, Two Thousand Maniacs, Color Me Blood Red) and the film itself is like an updated version of a H.G. Lewis film.  I am a huge fan of H.G. Lewis, so for this reason, I was a huge fan of this film as well.  Here is the basic plot from the Ruckus Productions website:

When a trio of sexy city gals picks up a broken-down hillbilly in the backwoods of Virginia – the three kittens get A LOT more than they bargained for when they accept the drifter’s invitation to a down-home barbecue. What these lovely ladies don’t know just may hurt ‘em – when they find that the menu of this hayseed hoe-down isn’t the standard ‘burgers and dogs’…

Shot on-location by Ruckus Productions in the hills of Virginia with an estimated budget of roughly 62 dollars – TRILOGY OF BLOOD is a grindhouse gore-fest combining old-school drive-in horror, with three (count ‘em – THREE!!!) rowdy performances by the grittiest psychobilly act this side of Pleasant Valley!!!

Starring Brenna Roth (B-movie starlet and daughter of legendary rocker David Lee Roth), and psychobilly sickos THE DEADNEKS – TRILOGY OF BLOOD is a carnage-crazed feast for the eyes and ears of hell-raisin’ Psycho Rock-and-Roll and 70’s exploitation-style cinematic madness!!!

If you see only one triple-music-video-slash-southern-fried-horror-film this century – grab your vomit-bags and earplugs, and treat yourself to a…TRILOGY OF BLOOD!!!!!!!!

As I stated before, this film is an obvious tribute to the gore films of H.G. Lewis.  The filmmakers do an excellent job of creating cheap, bloody effects that look like they came right out of one of Lewis' films from the 60's.   There is a lot of blood packed into the film, esp in the last half of the film, so all you gore hounds will not be disappointed. Some great gore scenes involve the cutting off of fingers and a very disgusting eye gouge scene!

The film is shot in a vintage style, which I found really cool. It's slightly out of focus, washed in a slight sepia tone, and has marks and scratches like the old style film projected movies.  I thought this was a cool touch and made the film feel as if it really was from the 60's or 70's.

The film contains some scenes of the band, The Deadneks, in concert.  The band is a real band that you should definitely check out if they ever play anywhere near you.  From the looks of their performance in this film, they look like a wild group that would put on an awesome show!  Check out their site (here) to keep up to date on their latest shows!

Overall, this was a cool, fun, retro, gore fest that I personally had a fun time with.  If you are a fan of H.G. Lewis, you will love this one!  Get the DVD now for only $10!
